[SOLVED] SATA DVD RW device issue

Motherboard Asus M2N-E Sli (nForce 500 Sli Chipset)
AMD 64 X2 4800+
Arch Linux (Testing Repo / Gnome desktop enviorment)

Made a clean install with no issues using ftp iso, user added to disk, optical and storage gropus

The problem arises when attempting to mount a cd/dvd... system reboots and if cd/dvd in device, boot process freezes system when loading the HAL daemon

Tried to discard hardware failure by testing two different devices (one brand new, the second a known to work device): same issue

Dont know what to make of all the sata_nv entires in dmesg:

Re: [SOLVED] SATA DVD RW device issue

Today i did my regular 'pacman -Syu' and there was this upgrade to hwd, thought something might have changed (wishful thinking)  but it didn't... they say ignorance is bliss but when it comes to linux i sure doesnt feel that way...

I have never used HAL, cannot help in this matter. To know if things work manually, deactivate the HAL daemon, and mount the cd.

Re: [SOLVED] SATA DVD RW device issue

When stopping the hal daemon trying to mount a CD gives a error i saw described in the forums when looking for a solution:

Re: [SOLVED] SATA DVD RW device issue

After googlin' around i read that there is some kind of issue with the ADMA mode of the sata_nv module (default mode), so it needs to be disabled to get the CD/DVD to work... the first thing i did was to make sure that /etc/modprobe.conf was in the files section of /etc/mkinitcpio.conf:

FILES="/etc/modprobe.conf"

Then i had to add the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf

options sata_nv adma=0

After that, as i am running the stock kernel  i issued:

mkinitcpio -p kernel26

Rebooted, and i had my DVD back
