Hello,
I' ve recently tried out ubuntu hardy, and they have fixed subpixel smoothing for LCD fonts. Perhaps some of you might find this interesting.
Some info:

Ubuntuforums thread about this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4750174
I' ve filed a bug report, #10234 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10234, hoping that this gets ported to archlinux.
Also, this issue has been discussed before in the forums: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=357504 I hope it is not considered spamming the forums to bring this up again.
If someone who reads this manages to bring this to arch, please comment on how you did it! (would a PKGBUILD be too much to ask, perhaps? I couldn't manage to compile OO.org when I tried, I'd like to have done that myself!)
Regards.

Remove your openoffice-base and install patched version from archlinuxfr repo
[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/i686
pacman -Sy openoffice-base-systemcairo

Steno, do you mind adding more patches from opensuse, such as gstreamer for audio/video, prettier menus, icon theme support, etc.
They have the most polished OO package.
