kdelibs-3.5.9-3 breaks KDE

When trying kdm via inittab:

/opt/kde/bin/kdm_greet: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdeui.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZThn40_NK10KColorDrag6formatEi

startx also fails with some symbol error from startkde (sorry, lost the log).

Restoring kdelibs-3.5.9-2 solves the issue.

Strangely enough, the bug has been closed without further notice ...

Damn, I shouldn't have left the tree ...

Re: kdelibs-3.5.9-3 breaks KDE

Frilled, could you provide an URL for the bug? Searching "kdelibs" returns no results, but I won't fill a bug if there's already one.

Also I'm a bit surprised not to see more comments about this, as my platform is quite common and I don't think Arch/KDE is an exotic combination. I'm wondering if it could be some local issue with my setup, because a blatant bug as not starting KDE at all seems too obvious to make it to current.

Probably because it's already been fixed with kdelibs-3.5.9-3.1

because only the 686 build was broken. x86-64 was fine.
The additional .x number if for indicating an architecture specific change.

pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

kdelibs-3.5.9-3.1 fixes the unresolved symbols issue. Guess I had bad luck updating in the time frame the broken pkg was in the repos.

Re: kdelibs-3.5.9-3 breaks KDE

How do I upgrade to the newer kdelibs? I tried -syu and its telling me 3.5.9.3 is the current version, and none of my kde apps are working because of it >.<

The mirror you're using haven't updated yet. As a solution, add:

Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/$repo/os/i686

to the top of your /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and sync+upgrade, then just comment it out again to get back to your preferred mirror.

EDIT: As the updated kdelibs doesn't depend on any new packages compared to 3.5.9.3, it would probably be much easier to just...

pacman -U ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686/kdelibs-3.5.9-3.1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

..instead smile
