Whole System Lockup

So my arch install has started randomly locking up.  It will just freeze up and the light for my caps lock will just start blinking.  I can't say any particular operation or type of operation causes it, so I'm really at a loss.

How do I start to debug this?  Which logs should I examine?  Are there some tricks to tracking this down?

Re: Whole System Lockup

If, you one of those lucky ones that have a driver issue, then try disconnecting random pieces of hardware until there are no more freezes.
Otherwise, welcome to 2.6.24/25 for a lot of people. There are countless threads about this on multiple linux forums.
We have a thread about it too; http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43932

Some people report that the rt-kernels seem to run more stable, so you might give that a try. My guess is that it's an issue with the scheduler.
I can honestly say that there is NO linux distro, using 2.6.24/25 that doesn't cause hard freezes on my computer as well. Well, 2.6.26 is just around the corner so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Good luck.

Re: Whole System Lockup

Are you running the iwlwifi-4965-ucode driver and the latest version thereof?  If so, see this:

Re: Whole System Lockup

Thankfully I seem to have had the problem that mrunion mentioned.  Rolling back that driver has left me lock-up free since.  I'm cautiously optimistic that the problem is solved.

Re: Whole System Lockup

If you don't mind (and you've not already) care to chime in on the ticket mentioned above?  It seems there are only a few of us with the issue, but I don't want it to get dismissed and "one machine has the problem, it's the machine". Maybe even chime in on the Intel ticket mentioned in the Arch ticket?

I really do appreciate it!
