midnight commander hangs

whenever i start mc as user and try to change the directory, it hangs and i have to kill it. when mc is being startet as root - everything works fine.

any ideas, what i'm doing wrong?

is your system up-to-date? if so did you possibly upgrade on of the depend that mc has which might require you to log out then in again to fix things? are you using some testing package that mc may not like?

other than that i am having no issues with it here so I cannot really offer much concrete advice

yes, my system is up to date (I've installed it yesterday), the only testing-package i'm using is fluxbox (0.9), which cannot be responsible for the error because it's working when being root. mc even hangs when x is not started.

I just started having this exact same problem on a fresh arch install. I've never seen this before and can't find anything on google. Anybody have any idea how to fix this?

me too. for over a few weeks now though thought that fresh install and perhaps the cool mc-new version in AUR and one or the other would be the fix.
NOPE. still frozen though rest of system works fine. This one is interesting. oh, same problem running as root.

starting with:

mc -u

seems tpo get me around the freeze.

That's funny.... I just pushed an update to mc about five minutes ago

I'm using the mc-new version in AUR. Thank you! um, now I'll go see if I should uninstall the mc-new version and install the pacman release version. nice!

it's not the bleeding edge version though maybe I would be fine with you update as I have to do the mc -u anyways to get the mc-new version in AUR to run. Great to have mc running though.
