I am using Archlinux for quite a while... and everytime i encounter a Suse / Mandriva / Ubuntu installation i get a little jeloius for their beautiful splash screen's on boot up...
I did try my luck with splashy / gensplash / bootsplash / fbsplash etc... but it seem's that no one really get's it right... there are allway's problems.. even after recompiling a kernel there are problems with initscripts etc...
So, i decided to see how many people feel like me, and maybe somebody with the right knowledge will take it on himself... (we know it can be done...) i wish i could do it, but i cant
So all i ask, if you feel like me, and would like to have archlinux a deafult splash screen at boot, or at least an easy way to get it done (pacman -S .. ) post here "me too".
thanks.
(if there is an easy way to get it done and i'm just stupid and didnt find it, please correct me)

I disagree.
Part of the reason I like arch is the lack of branding!

I know I am new here. I started using Arch a few weeks ago, and now, just because of The Arch Way I deleted Debian and made Arch my main system. I believe this answers your question.
If there were branding in Arch, I wouldn't be here now.

Indeed.

I see no reason for it.
It's very easy to install yourself anyway.

Another -1. I wouldn't like official splashing.
Offline
No. Why?
It's a bug planet!

No default splashing please.

No default splashing, though a generic hook framework was approved to be merged ages ago, except everyone forgot about it.
Once the generic initscript hooking framework is implemented then splash will be as easy as editing your mkinitcpio.conf and pacman -S whateversplashapp and configuring that whateversplashapp

I don't agree either.

Hi.
Im pretty new to Arch (a bit over a week) and i really like it. I came from Ubuntu to Arch and Arch fits my needs much better
Why dont leave it the Arch way - let the user decide. Just the way it is - if someone wants to have a splash, let him install it. Sometimes i liked the splash (ubuntus default) but most of the time i didnt care. And actually i prefer to see what happens then a machine boots up.

I fell pretty safe in saying that there will never be slash screens by default. But optional splash screen is fairly easy to do. One of the new TUs mentioned in his application that he was interested in bringing it to [community] at some stage...

Why do you need a splash screen when you reboot roughly every month?
Suspend ftw.
Better invent a good way to install kernel updates without rebooting.
Offline
As long it kept optional. Arch doesn't need any splashys etc on default, leave it to Ubuntu

I think the OP just wants splash to work on his computer, and requesting for an official splash implementation is another way of asking for it.
I never really notice splashes myself, so it doesn't matter to me either way.

Even though I came from a user friendly background recently, where nearly every OS has a boot splash screen, I don't agree on it either. That's not really 'keeping it simple'.
BTW is there something like usplash for Arch? Does splashy touch the kernel at all?

Easy, working splash support would be nice yes. Ofcourse it should be optional, but as it is now it seems splashes are the worst supported community projects on arch.

you are right, i did a poor lob explaining my self, my idea is to have an easy splash option for arch, deafult or not is not important for me.
* i use a laptop, so reboot is more often for me. (dont like suspend/hibernate)

No, Arch will never force a splash down anyone's throat.
It should be optional, just as everything else is. That's the beauty of Arch.
The only problem is that splashes are kind of broken in Arch right now.
Might I suggest you try to use a framebuffer ? See if you like it

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

an easy way to install and use plymouth when it's ready would be very cool, but not by default.
and as others already said: it's the lack of branding, that makes arch nice.

Someone recently rewrote splashy for arch a while back:

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.

Threads like these are really pointless. This goes against the arch way by any definition. Don't get me wrong, I do think splash screens look good and are nice to have every now and then, but they absolutely should NOT be forced on anyone. And will not.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

No default splash please.
But definitely would like to see better splash integration in the initscripts as mentioned by iphitus.
