Does this mean Grub2 is out of alpha?
no, grub2 is still alpha as indicated by the install message and the warning on the wiki page.
Grub2 allows you to boot from ext4 (at least it should allow you to do so), which IFAIK is not possible with grub-legacy.
ps. grub2 is the codename for the next generation of grub.
ps2. grub-legacy (called grub in the repos) is still the default one and just works so there is no need to do the upgrade if you don't want to

Is grub2 loading faster than grub-legacy? Because my laptop needs about 4-5 seconds to load grub, thats about half of the time it needs to resume from hibernation.

@tcoffeep: No, it's not out of alpha.
@fettouhi: What do you mean by "graphical" backgrounds?

Like I said, is it possible to add background images with the grub2 package like you can with grub-gfx in community? Or do you have to patch it?

So, is grub2 going to replace the grub-legacy from core when it gets released ?
The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

That would seem to follow the arch way. Latest and greatest and all that.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

For those who don't know, grub2 is already in extra. And there's a wiki article about it.

Yes. It does. You have to set a video mode though. And I can't figure out how to do that...might have something to do with vga.

Grub2 is at the stage of a development release, so I hope that archlinux is going to offer it as a mere alternative to grub-legacy, at least until it reaches 2.0 (which, considered the pace of its development, will happen in the fourth millennium).
I say this also because I have two laptops where I have never managed to install properly grub2, so I am a bit partial

I have managed to install it on a laptop, but honestly I see no difference (therefore no point of grub2 )
