Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

I'm using KDEmod, and fam will not update my files.  Obviously, I can create or delete a file and it is reflected in Dolphin, but if I add a file via another program while the window is open (ie if I download a file using Firefox), I have to refresh the window to see it.  fam is in my daemon list in rc.conf and famd is running in my process list.  Any idea what's going on?  I googled but all I could find were old forum posts with similar issues in kde 3.

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

I'm not sure how to fix the fam issue itself, but you may accomplish the same thing by first removing fam from the daemon list and uninstalling it, then installing Gamin (it requires no daemon) instead. From what I understand, it's supposed to replace the "outdated" fam.

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

I uninstalled fam and installed gamin.  No change sad

Apparently this person had the same (unresolved) problem.  Could it be a problem with Dolphin itself?

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

This was never resolved.  Anyone have any ideas?  What about other KDE-mod users?  Do new files show up in Dolphin for you without you having to refresh?

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

I don't think Dolphin uses fam. I don't have it or gamin installed, it's not a dependency. If I delete a file in Konsole it's gone in Dolphin.

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

Perhaps it doesn't, but I still do not have the functionality I want.  Let me give you a use case.

I have my "downloads" folder open.  I use Ark to unrar a rar file to my downloads folder.  Unfortunately, the files I just unarchived are not there; I have to press f5 to refresh the view and voila, there they are.  I'd rather they "just be there" when I unrar them.

Similar to your example, I just tried deleting a file in console that is located inside an open folder in Dolphin.  The file did not disappear until I hit refresh.

I don't know about Nautilus in Arch, but in Ubuntu Nautilus functions like this.  I can't imagine Dolphin not having this feature.  What am I doing (or have set up) wrong?

I'm not sure, but I think Dolphin uses something else, from KDE or Qt libs.

I don't know, it works for me.

I believe that all things KDE use inotify, which is built into the kernel.

Re: Dolphin not working with fam [SOLVED]

I somehow managed to figure it out.  Apparently I disabled neopmuk (or whatever it is called) because I didn't want it using cpu cycles to index my files when I first installed KDEmod.  I don't know why, but that killed Dolphins auto-refresh.  When I reenabled it, it worked the way I expected it to.  Stupid me.  I'll mark it solved.
