Amarok just skips first few second of flac tracks.
xine sometimes play ok, but most times acts like amarok.
ffplay cannot seek track and hang when track ends.
In console i get this:
[flac @ 0x93cd7d0]decode_frame() failed
[flac @ 0x93cd7d0]FRAME HEADER not here
[flac @ 0x93cd7d0]unsupported channel assignment 2 (channels=2)
[flac @ 0x93cd7d0]invalid coding type
[flac @ 0x93cd7d0]broken stream, invalid padding
all this messages repeats many times.
no problems with plaing mp3, ogg and other.
any ideas?

MPlayer has no problems with playing FLAC.

this looks like xine-lib bug: http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196
solved by downgrading xine-lib to 1.1.15

I tried your tip, but it's still not working for me.
Downgraded to: http://archlinux.cbn.net.id/extra/os/i6 … pkg.tar.gz

I think this is a ffmpeg bug (or a xine bug incorrectly using ffmpeg). It's the ffmpeg library that is spitting this message out. If you remove the xineplug_decode_ff.so from /usr/lib/xine/*, then it will use the libflac decoder instead. I haven't had any problems with that one.

Thanks for you response. I tried deleting xineplug_decode_ff.so, up- and downgrading libxine, using ffmpeg-svn but still no luck. But I found something interesting: On files that are encoded with the (I think) newest flac version seeking does not work, on files that were encoded with an older version of flac I have no problems at all.
Nasty thing for an audiophile :'(

I do see the error with ffmpeg, but not with the libFLAC... I still think it's an ffmpeg issue...

Do you get any messages on the console when you've deleted the xineplug_decode_ff.so?

Hi again, sorry for the delay. Unfortunately I don't get any ffmpeg / xine related output from amarok if I delete xineplug_decode_ff.so
If I understood you correctly you solved the problem for you... are you willing to test a flac file that causes troubles for me (remember: not all flac files aren't working, only the newer ones I guess)? That would be a great help!

Great thread, you can count me in as well. I just built my first server (using arch as os of course) and loaded it with my lossless music 2TB, amarok is really really really getting silly with me, skips ahead of tracks or refuses to play at all, hmm so this is engine related and not amarok in general?
Songbird plays the flac just fine but crashes while browsing in file mode.

You can always use the mplayer phonon backend (it's in AUR).

You may use the GStreamer backend wich also yields perfect 24-bit flac playback in Amarok, see e.g. http://mstenberg.com/blog/2010/08/04/am … ma-codecs/ (originally for Ubuntu, but is generic enough).

Dude this thread is more than one year old! I guess these problems already disappeared.
