Created a new python forum -- python3.org

Thought some of the python folks here might enjoy.

I originally registered python3.org and intended on starting a python forum. I wrote for logo approval, and the long and the short of it, I've donated the domain name to the PSF, Python  Software Foundation, but they wanted me to continue on with my original idea. So I've created the forums, and there are a few people I know there now, but thought I'd post it here for those of you that might be interested.

I welcome comments, suggestions.  I'm still new to python, but not new to running forums. The forum is phpBB3 based, with no modifications as of yet.

http://python3.org

btw..... it's running on Arch Linux of course big_smile big_smile

Do you really have to have(is that good english) the splash screen, because I find it annoying and useless, unless there is going to be a site there.

Edit: Love the idea though, makes me rethink not learning python...

Awesome!  Now that summer's almost here, I can begin honing my Python skills (which aren't that great ATM), and your forums are one of the 1st places I'll be looking to for help.

Thanks for another winner, @crouse!

Edited my mad use of English skills to better reflect the more commonly accepted grammatical standard, despite the fact I know you're is a lesser known synonym of your (and as such, is technically correct).

It actually serves more than one purpose, and it will eventually have many links to important python sites/information.
Bypassing it is as simple as bookmarking the forums themselves wink

FWIW, I'm learning python myself, I WISH I was an expert at it, but I can't claim that status he he he.  It's just one of those things I've always wanted to learn, and now am going to immerse myself in that task.

Re: Created a new python forum -- python3.org

I joined the forum (same name).

Hopefully that will give me some incentive to start using Python regularly. As it is now, I tend to use it when I need objects or when I want my code to be extensible. I would have rewritten Powerpill et al. in Python when I refactored them if it hadn't been for the ease and speed of sticking to Perl for code re-use (plus I wanted to finally familiarize myself with Perl's kludgy objects). I'm also heavily reference-dependent in Python which would make quick fixes more difficult.

Feel free to use the Arch-Python logos that I made (e.g. for an Arch Linux sub-forum or user group).
I'd also be happy to help out as a mod/admin if you need it. I run a small phpbb3 board on another site so I know my way around the ACP etc.

why do you have to review every post? this really slows down 'conversation'

Points off for [what appears to be] the vBulletin theme.

Other than that, nice!

Only have to review the first 3 posts, after that we don't. This is because the spam bots are running rampant and had already hit one site.
The alternative is like what you see I did on bashscripts.org  Using a .htaccess file to make people log in twice every time they go to the site.
This seemed like the easier method to me.  wink

Get in line! I asked first tongue

Joking aside, I support the "Dusty for Mod" campaign (need a running mate?).
