[SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

Hey there, just did a fresh install of Arch w/ gnome on my laptop, everything works flawlessly, except for a little thing:

When I try to close Nautilus either by pressing the x on the top right corner, or do file => close, Nautilus crashes to the Bugreporting tool Bug Buddy.
This is the error i get:

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

Did this issue get resolved? If so, how? I'm getting this on a fresh install of Arch64 as well. All packages are up-to-date as of today (May 9, 2009). Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

I encountered the same problem after I set "File Management -> Behavior -> Always open in browser windows(checked)"
It stopped crashing after I uncheck it. Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

The issue still persists, a very long search either throughout the forums or with google does not yield any results. You two could post your error reports here to see if there is anything in common.

Edit:
Gonna do a fresh install of arch on a virtual machine to see if this also happens a second time.

Hello

I have noticed the same problem after a fresh install, yesterday. (I have processed to a fresh install monday in my laptop and no problem...)

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

I have this same issue, I am sorry for the double post:  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 38#p550838

Laduch is right, its only after you enable "Always open in browser."  Hmmm, so for now I unchecked that and everythings fine, just annoying I have to deal with non-browser windows until a fix can be pushed via updated.  Im actually glad to hear others are having this issue too on current fresh installs of the current build (2009.02).  Hang in there guys...

That's what we get for being bleeding edge smile

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

I have this issue, when close nautilus window, but also i get an error when open preferences in "evolution".

2 flob
If u want to resolve this ("(nautilus:18372): WARNING **: libeel-2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory") issue, u must install package "eel"

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

hey there,

got the same problem. but i remembered having had a gnome-panel-update pulled in by pacman. this made be try out downgrading some stuff and this is how it works again for me (though i found out, that the gnome-panel-package doesn't seem to cause any problems, here is how it goes):
downgrade the following packages (from version/to version):

policykit-gnome-(0.9.2-4/0.9.2-3) -> downgrade needed cause it depends on gconf>=2.26.1
gconf-(2.26.1/2.26.0)

so, how would i file a bug report?

PS: quicklick for downgrade-guide: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade_packages

It should pup up a bug report when nautilus crashes.

On a side note:  I think Ill just wait for an update, I hate having to go and change pacman.conf, trust me, ill forget about it one day and Ill wonder why I can't get an update haha

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

no need to edit. just cd to /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ and twice do a pacman -U <pkg-file>
that's all.

Same problem with evolution, my nautilus didn't crash though, i believe because I hadn't yet restarted.

@ngoonee:
i have to admit, i also only had the evolution-crash when trying to open the preferences-window. no nautilus-crash, so far.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

So to get this straight, i'd have to downgrade a packet to get this fixed? This bug is related to this, rather to a misconfiguration or error on my side?
Basically, all i can do is either downgrade or wait for a fix through updates, correct?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

Update, the latest metacity also depends on this gconf. Those who are experiencing problems will have to downgrade the two packages listed above as well as metacity to metacity-2.26.0-1 at highest.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

I don't know why, but two (at least) schema key are missing from nautilus gconf configuration:

/apps/nautilus/preferences/navigation_window_saved_geometry
/apps/nautilus/preferences/navigation_window_saved_maximized

When nautilus (with browser behavior) closes, it try to set those options, so:

gconftool-2 -s -t string /apps/nautilus/preferences/navigation_window_saved_geometry '400x200 +20+20'
gconftool-2 -s -t bool /apps/nautilus/preferences/navigation_window_saved_maximized false

solves the problem.
No matter what are the values, they are updated when you close the window.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome - Nautilus crashes on close

gconf 2.26-1-2 is out (I got it at night on 12th-May-2009, depends on mirrors I guess). This solves the problem for me, and should for everyone else with THIS problem. So, if you're updated and have this problem, you'll have to look somewhere else.
