Re: texlive-core installation problem

I just got the same error messages when installing texlive. I don't think they mean anything.

Well, I'm glad you're not my sysadmin tongue Error messages always mean something. The question, of course, is how serious the problem is and who it affects. In this case, it just means the luatex format files were not generated, so you will not be able to use luatex. But if you don't know what luatex is, chances are that doesn't matter to you at all. AFAIK, luatex does not (yet) replace any TeX component you are accustomed to using. But I think it is supposed to provide some interesting extensions to TeX functionality--for example, it is supposed to have very sophisticated font handling capabilities, and allows you to embed Lua functions in your TeX code.

PS: Just in case it isn't clear by now,

luatex != latex

Re: texlive-core installation problem

Someone filed a bug a few days ago. The following hint is given:

Your problem is rather with the experimental hyphenation patterns for german, which you most probably do not need! (I don't know why it fails on your system – I have no such problem...).

In any case, please do this:
$ sudo cp /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.def /usr/share/texmf-config/tex/generic/config/language.def
$ sudo vim /usr/share/texmf-config/tex/generic/config/language.def
and comment out the line(s) with the string "dehypht-x"

Do exactly as above with the file /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat

Then run
$ sudo fmtutil-sys --missing
That's it smile

(http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16467)

Unfortuanetly it doesn't work for me. Also this hint doesn't help.

I think the most of us can ignore that failure. LuaTeX is still under heavy development.
