Can't Run Obconf

The problem is simple: when I try to run obconf it doesnt open, and when I run it in the console I get a tremendously long string of error messages ending in a segfault:

Segmentation fault

Latest version of obconf and openbox, gdk-pixbuf is installed. I really don't understand why this is happening, I can't seem to find any information on this sort of problem. Anyone have an idea?

I'm using    openbox-3.4.7.2-2-x86_64, ObConf-2.0.3-3-x86_64, gtk2-2.16.2-1-x86_64

ObConf runs okay from menu, when I run it from a terminal I see all the same errors you do, but mine doesn't segfault. Maybe try a different GTK2 theme, or different openbox theme, although if you only get the segfault in ObConf that seems an unlikely solution.

I would report it to ObConf and brush up on my xml config file editing skills until help arrives. roll

I'm using the same versions as you, so no issue there. I'd report it directly but the Openbox website seems to have been down for the past little while (anyone know what's going on there?)

Hi there ^_^

When obconf starts running, it parses each theme configuration files and renders preview thumbnail images for "Theme" tab. If obconf reads a theme that contains some incorrect configuration (i.e. not corresponding to the legal syntax that obconf expects), it would cause a gdk-critical error, or in the worst case, fatal segmentation fault. So if obconf crashes, you should fix the broken 'themerc' file, or just uninstall that theme. But unfortunately it is a little difficult to specify those bad themes, because obconf doesn't tell us which theme causes error.

You can patch the obconf source file to make a verbose debugging version. For example:
1) Download obconf source tarball from openbox official site, then extract all files (assume ~/obconf-2.0.3)
2) Edit ~/obconf-2.0.3/src/preview.c file. I'm sorry I don't know how to place patch code here, please edit it manually (very easy).

insert this line:
  g_print("=== %s ===\n", name);
between line 504
  gint w, h;
and line 506
  RrTheme *theme = ...

3) $ cd ~/obconf-2.0.3
4) $ ./configure --prefix=/usr
5) $ make
Then, run the new obconf:
6) $ src/obconf

Patched obconf reports current parsing theme name in terminal, so you can easily find out the black sheep. Now let's get rid of it.

yea, simply remove all your openbox themes from ~/.themes and run obconf, it should work

Less radical, but should also work: change your openbox theme in your rc.xml by hand. Then restart obconf
