I did an update today which upgraded the kernel.

I rebooted but get:

Kernel panic - not syncing: stack - protector: kernal stack is corrupted in: f851ab3b

What do I do now?

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

Hello guys,

i can confirm this bug, since i have updatet to kernel 2.6.30-ARCH.
I believe it has something to do with those lirc modules, because when i plug the usb cable from my remote out, the system starts normally.

I use lirc modules lirc_atiusb and lirc_dev of course.

I hope someone has a suggestion for a fix.

PS: i dont have testing activated and im up to date

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

I am having the same issue.  It seems to be tied to my wireless though.  If I boot with wireless turned off, or boot without wicd and don't try to connect to my AP everything runs smoothly.  As soon as I try connecting to my wifi AP with wicd or even manually from the command line I get a kernel panic and I can't do anything but turn off the computer by holding the power button down.

My system also paniced when i inserted my X10 remote usb device, but i found a way to get it working again on 2.6.30.1. Use the userspace lirc driver. First blacklist lirc_atiusb and ati_remote in /etc/rc.conf. Then i set up my /etc/conf.d/lircd.conf file as follows.

#
# Parameters for lirc daemon
#

LIRC_DEVICE=""
LIRC_DRIVER="atilibusb"
LIRC_EXTRAOPTS=""
LIRC_CONFIGFILE="/usr/share/lirc/remotes/atiusb/lircd.conf.atilibusb"

Then reboot (sorry i dont know how to update modules blacklist from rc.conf when the system is runinng maybe someone else can fill that in). Then start lircd, plug in the usb device and check with irw that the remote works.

Someone better at english might want to update the wiki for the X10 remote (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/X10). Hope this help someone.

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

Is there any fix in sight for the kernel driver? Worked way better for me than the userspace one hmm

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

Same problem here with (source: NET) install ([2009-09-08 23:08] installed kernel26 (2.6.30.5-1)) , i try to put "blacklist ati_remote" in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and after restart i got kernel panic. Tried also to put !ati_remote in /etc/rc.conf result same error, Fallback isnt working after that also, and partition is needed to mount from other working distro to remove line about ati_remote...

Till now for X10 was this modul needed "lirc_atiusb" but now both ati_remote and lirc_atiusb are loaded and i dont get anything with "irw" tests.
from dmesg:

input: X10 Wireless Technology Inc USB Receiver as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:06.0/usb4/4-3/input/input7
usbcore: registered new interface driver ati_remote

lirc_atiusb: USB remote driver for LIRC $Revision: 1.85 $
lirc_atiusb: Paul Miller <pmiller9@users.sourceforge.net>
usbcore: registered new interface driver lirc_atiusb

If i put both in /etc/rc.conf as blacklisted !ati_remote !lirc_atiusb , system boot, if remote the ! from lirc_atiusb i got:

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

I get this same problem after upgrading to 2.6.31 from testing.  I can boot up but then I get a kernal panic on shutdown.  It won't even shut all the way down but will reboot just fine.

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

Hi,

I played again today with same old method trying to get X10 and lir_atiusb working but no go. I also found on lirc mailinglist a topic reported from someone here:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/foru … =lirc-list

Would be nice that someone from devs Jump in and fix this prob...

Afert i get that kernel panic error, i need to disconnect that usb X10 RF and do hard reset then it will boot again..

Re: kernel panic after upgrade

For those that are using the userspace driver and haven't noticed, this seems to have been fixed now.
