Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

How stable is RC2? Got my finger on the upgrade-trigger, it itches smile
I can live with some minor bugs here and there, but don't want to run into a total mess.
Is it save from your experience?

Is it recommended/ needed again to wipe the .kde4 folder after upgrade, or can I keep my config this time?

I wouldn't say my way of doing this is the best, but for everytime I upgrade from a beta 1 to beta2 to rc1 to rc2 I remove my .kde4 .config and all that may contain some configuration file for any KDE application.

Though I never do that when going from stable releases like 4.2.0 to .1 to .2 and so on, only major upgrades or development upgrades.

i deleted ~/.kde4 and ~/.config/akonadi and the problem with akonadi continues.

edit:

i finally recompiled akonadi and created my own package using kde-unstable PKGBUILD and it now works perfectly again.

You use kde-unstable or kdemod.  Not both.

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

k3n's mp3 not work anymore

Mp3 Audio Decoder plugin not found.
K3b could not load or find the Mp3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from Mp3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include Mp3 support for legal reasons.
Solution: To enable Mp3 support, please install the MAD Mp3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD Mp3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of Mp3 support via an online update tool (e.g. SuSE's YOU).

Testing kde 4.2.96 for about a day, i have to adimit that it's the most stable kde 4.x until now. I am a happy kde user big_smile

@Pierre, as i see in kde unstable svn, there is a newer PKGBUILD for qt. Is it safe for creating a qt package?

Does anyone know why the packages in kde-unstable are built without debugging symbols? Because its a rc it would make much more sense and be really helpful.

I opened a bug for that in the kde bug tracker, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197393 a person from ubuntu confirmed he had the same problem, but as of yet no developer has taken interest in it.

From memory, that is because it adds a lot to the size and you really need deps built with debugging symbols too for it to be useful.
