hi.
since some updates recently, i am unable to print at all. with my HP Photosmart C3180. and i was able to before
i got this message "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed" near the name of the printer in the printer's page of cups. the printer is stopped very time i try to print...
i don't understand what's going on...
i tried with newest foomatic-db foomatic-db-engine foomatic-db-hpijs from foomatic site.
i tried the latest hplip 3.9.6b drivers...
i always got the same error.
i tried with another printer HP Deskjet 5740
it's still the same. i can't print.
i have filled a bug report http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15386
but i hope someone here could help me get my printer back to work soon... please help !

OMG.
it's always when i post, that it works again.
i don't know why. i reinstalled all the packages (pacman -S cups hplip foomatic-db) from archlinux. and reconfigure my printer with hp-setup. and now it works again :-?

I'll try the same and see if it helps me as well. Annoying problem, had to connect the printer directly to every computer that had something to print because the server is acting up. Only hate hp-setup for demanding a screen, so i physically have to be at the server.

There was a problem with the hplip package recently. Make sure to upgrade to "hplip 3.9.6b-2".
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

I upgraded and reinstalled cups, everything works now!
Note: A simple "pacman -Suy" did not alone fix the problem, I did have to use hp-setup as well. If reinstalling cups had any effect I don't know.

Still happening for me.
I have a really old HP LaserJet 3p that should be in a museum hooked up to a lp2USB hooked up to my router with build in print server (D-Link DI-524UP) which uses LPD (lpd://192.168.0.1/lp1)
I got this problem around the start of this month and resolved it by removing the printer and reinstalling the printing stack. But now it's back with a vengeance, showing no mercy.
Does anyone know how to completely clean away all CUPS related stuff?
