I am unable to set desktop background after system update. I can see pictures but desktop will not allow to set background. I don't see any errors related to desktop background.
Is there any way to fix this?
thanks

wait until kdemod guys recompiles all the related packages for the new libjpeg
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

actually, there is a lot of libjpeg dependencies, so in such case, before updating lib, all software that is related:
kde, firefox, thunderbird, xfce, whatever else, should be first compiled against a new library.
at this point I had to downgrade not only libjpeg.
this seems quite obvious,
amarok is not kdemod and it crashes too. Obviously libjpeg update was rushed.
This is not a big deal though (thank God).

@broch you are talking without know anything. all packages was compiled agaisn't new library and moved to extra after laying in testing for couples of days/weeks.
just wait that your mirror to be sync properly. use search from archlinux.org to see if you have the same version.
amarok was not compile so you should file a bug report .

I am sorry, but this is not only amarok.
I am not upset, in fact I find this quite funny (I am not ironic, things like this always may happen).
I have only half of installed software running properly. It is my choice which one:
libjpeg 7 dependent or libjpeg 6 dependent
I decided that for now I am going to switch between libraries as needed:
when I need something that depends on older library, I will install older version, if I would need to use something that depends on the latest libraty I will simply install libjpeg 7
hopefully this little accident will be resolved soon.
by the way please read post #7
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75199
before stating that all is o.k. and tested for long time. Obviously it was not tested carefully enough.

Can you please tell me the status on this topic (no background images in kde 4.2.4)?
I'm running Arch64 with original kde (not kdemod) and still cannot select another desktop background. All images in the selection list - pre-installed or downloaded from kde-look.org - show up as blue areas in the preview and later on the desktop.
How can I fix that or when will a fix be available?
Is there a bug report for that (I searched for "background" in the bugtracking system without success)?

I think that you have to run
pacman -Syu
to update kde. I hope that kde was recompiled against new libjpeg so it should work after system update. I am using kdemod and problem was resolved some time ago so I assume that Arch kde will work well after update.
hope this will help

Sorry, my kde is up to date and pacman -Syu doesn't fetch any new kde packages. So on my Arch64 system it is still broken.
