WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

WARNING: If you are using any of the several shared-qt Opera 10+ packages from AUR, be careful when upgrading to qt-4.5.3-1:

- don't pacman -Sc
- check if Opera still loads pages. Test with "busy" pages with lots of JS, flash, etc.
- if opera seems to get stuck in the middle of loading pages or before showing anything, downgrade qt:

pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/qt-4.5.2-7-i686.pkg.tar.gz

or

pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/qt-4.5.2-7-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

Same problem here. Downgrading qt solved it too.

Opera-qt4 from aur is Opera with statically linked QT, i.e. it doesn't use the system wide QT library and doesn't "see" the ugrade.

Just to confirm - building and installing opera-qt4 solved the problem completely.

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

heh, I did -Sc after doing a system upgrade because I didn't notice any problems.  Only noticed Opera's loading issue a while later.

For anyone that screwed up like I did, you can load pages/tabs by refreshing.  (on occasion, tabs may not close but you can not use them.  refresh and this will update the browser, closing the tab).

reporting the issue on Opera forums:

Skripka, are you using a "static qt" or a "shared qt" build?
I'm now giving the static build a try.

It's also acting up for me (x86_64).

For anyone who had already cleared their cache, i found an out of date mirror:

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

Same here. Opera 10 shared from AUR. Downgrading QT worked.

Question: I originally opted for the shared version because it was in the repos and I hadn't discovered the pleasures of AUR&yaourt yet. Opera is the only QT-app I use.
Is there any reason NOT to use the static version of opera, since I need to get it from AUR anyway?

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

The only difference between the static and shared builds are size (static is obviously larger, as it includes all the needed libraries and dependancies) and the look.  static's menus look horrible and you cant change them.

i dont get it.. you have downgraded qt already and it works. What else do you need? smile
And to answer your question: No, its not possible, opera is bugged against new qt, nothing you can do -  hooray to closed source software

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

I have found this (http://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qt/commit/d0 … 3ef6662b57) and this (http://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qt/commit/0e … b43fc30449) commit in the qt git repository that look like they will fix the problem many of us have identified.  While I haven't had the chance to try them out myself yet, I think they should be investigated and added to our qt package if they actually prove to solve the issue because it is likely it will bite us again some way or the other with the impeding KDE 4.3.2 release.

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

I tried the opera PKGBUILD from AUR on x86_64 with Qt-4.5.3-3 and did not notice any problems. How exactly do you guy produce this error?

PS: Note that KDE 4.3.2 does not work with Qt 4.5.2!

Re: WARNING: Opera likely broken by today's qt update!

~ $ kwin --version
Qt: 4.5.3
KDE: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
KWin: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)

actually, u just need to open up to 5 new tabs then, for each one, move to a site (different sites)..
seems like it stops responding..
