Arch on N800 - freeze on boot.

I used this guide to install ARM Arch on the internal SD card. Everything worked fine, flashing initfs to create a boot menu and all... But when I try to boot from the SD card my N800 just freezes. It says

Booting from immc2 (mmcblk0p2 ext2)...

The partition is right, the first one is FAT and the second one is the root filesystem (ext2), so this isn't the problem.

Has anyone installed Arch on N800/N810?

Re: Arch on N800 - freeze on boot.

Hey Boris Bolgradov,

Someone already managed to boot ArchMobile(not an official ArchLinux Port btw), but i don't know what he has done...

You replaced kernel26-openmoko with your Kernel, did you? Which did you use? For what do you need an initfs? Which Bootloader are you using? Some Links to that?

I guess it would be better if you join us on IRC, much things we have to struggle around with wink

Greetings, naeg.

Re: Arch on N800 - freeze on boot.

I tried the openmoko kernel, because I never cross-compiled any packages before. I'm a little confused. I downloaded the latest maemo kernel, kernel-source-diablo_2.6.21.orig.tar.gz, but I'm confused how and where I need to compile it. I already have a chrooted environment for the ArchMobile project and I configured some scripts like rc.conf, fstab, pacman.conf, but nothing more... sad

About the bootloader, I used http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/#initfs . It's not grub nor lilo, it's 770/N800/N810 bootmenu written by fanoush.

Could you provide me with help on compiling the kernel for the N800?

edit: Also, I was on #arch-arm today but no one responded. (there were 2 people with 3 bots or something like that, it's awful)

Re: Arch on N800 - freeze on boot.

Then you had bad luck, i am most of them time in IRC.

You possibly can just take the Kernel-Image, so no compiling is needed(not sure if it works).

You don't have to cross-compile. We compile using qemu, so you don't have to cross-compile, see http://www.archmobile.org/trac/wiki/AFR … nvironment

I hope this helps you for now smile more help i can give you for sure on IRC.
