Fan (cooler) not work

Firstly, sorry for my English.

After previous update of system (include move to latest 2.6.31 kernel) cooler on my notebook Acer Aspire 5715Z isn't work. On a hardware there are no problems: when I turn on notebook, cooler work and stopped only when arch start boot process. I test cooler on other linux os - AltLinux (with 2.6.27 kernel) and fan work properly.
I wasn't change anything in config files before problems (cpu temperature increase and system after it shutdown) start, but I test system without cpufreq (and also w/o laptop-mode) and it also have this problems.

I think next can provide some information:

[root@acerAspire /]# find /proc/acpi/fan/

Re: Fan (cooler) not work

Try upgrading the BIOS on your laptop, might be an ACPI problem which is triggered by kernel 2.6.31.

Re: Fan (cooler) not work

I have the same problem on Acer Aspire 5715z x86_64 machine. Here is "uname -a" output from my machine;

Linux onixlab 3.6.11-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 18 08:57:15 CET 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I upgraded my bios to latest version(v 1.45) which I downloaded from Acer Support site. Now my cooler fan works as I'm hearing its sound smile

I am glad you got it worked out, and thanks for the update.
Be advised this is a 3+ year old thread.  Don't expect a response, I have not seen the original members of this thread for years.
