[SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Have anyone noticed low responsivity of desktop elements after latest upgrade? When I want to open "Kick-off menu" it takes 1s form click to open. Same situation concerns "device info" icon which is also placed on toolbar. I still experiencing Dolphin freezes when highlighting files/folders but that is issue from previous release.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

I also have the same delay with Kick-off menu since yesterday.  I think it happens when i updated xorg-server to version 1.7.1.901.  Even Yakuake is slow to open...

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

I had the issue, also opening konsole froze the system for about 10 seconds. Downgraded xorg-server and it's fine now. Nice to know it's being worked on though smile

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

flamelab: You wrote you comment about the bug report at the same time that i was complaining about KDE slowiness.  Like the other, i recompiled xorg-server without Fedora's patche and now KDE is back to normal!
Thanks for linking to the bug report!

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Many many thanks, flamelab!

This had been driving me crazy on an x86_64 install I just started last night, I thought I screwed something up somewhere until I found this thread entirely on accident... ><

Recompiling with abs and removing fedora's window-pictures or whatever patch did indeed fix the problem.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

I had the same problem with KDE 4.3.3 and xorg-server-1.7.1.901-1.  Instead of downgrading, I installed the xorg-server version 1.7.1.901-2 from http://adslgr64.tiven.org/archlinux/x86_64.

It seems that this update solved the problem for me.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

If got bitten by this bug too....

Does anyone know if this just affects X86_64 ?

My machine is running X8664 arch but I remotely upgraded our data centre's main work desktop which is running i686 Arch linux...

I get no delay whilst connecting with freenx but as this is a Xorg/KDE issue was wondering if the bug affects this version too ?

Anyone know ?

Just the job - I nearly had to ditch Arch because of this glitch !

On a side note, how long was 1.7.1.901-1 in testing ?

As one who permanently runs with 'testing' enabled,
I never noticed a problem until it [xorg-server] was promoted to 'extra'.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

That happened because xorg-server with the new fedora patch, wasn't on testing.

With the patch, KDE is slow, but there is not GTK segfault.

Without the patch, GTK segfaults, but no lag on KDE.

With partial patch (the first three lines), no lag, no GTK segfaults, but Radeons with dualhead don't work !! (the last one I think that a dev wrote that on flyspray)

The xorg-server which I uploaded on adslgr64 is xorg-server with the partial patch http://gitorious.org/arch-linux-greece/ … 06820.html

Ouch !
I used to run Fedora - their role as a test-bed for Red Hat is well earned !

Good work with sorting it out smile

Unfortunately the link is dead sad Can I get this package elsewhere?

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Hi guys, the xorg-server 1.7.1.901-2 package has just showed up in repo, so after upgrade everything seem to work well. Previously mentioned delay of Plasma elements was fixed. Thanks to all for quick response and suggestions. For me the problem is solved.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Confirmed fixed on X86_64 + i686  (1.7.1.901-2)

One difference of arch linux and other distros is that when you have an issue it generally is fixed within hours...

Every time I post anything on ubuntuforums I never get back any thing of use,

Arch is awesome !

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

I installed the updated xorg-server version 1.7.1.901-3 from http://adslgr64.tiven.org/archlinux/x86_64 and I think this is better than the previous version.

Before, gimp crashes everytime I edit some images.  I thought this was a problem with gimp.  But with the newer xorg-server 1.7.1.901-3 installed,  I have not seen any crash from gimp so far.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Same problem with 1.7.1.901-2.  I installed 1.7.1.901-3 from http://adslgr64.tiven.org/archlinux/x86_64 and the problem is still exists. GIMP isn't crashes anymore, but the kicker and other plasma-related things are slow. When I click on the Kicker icon, it stops the whole screen for 4-5secs.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE 4.3.3 low responsivity

Are your sure that you use that xorg-server ? I 've got much feedback from the people (with Nvidia and Radeons) using this repo, no one reported a problem (only one, who rebooted and found out that there was no problem)
