In the last few days I have 100% reproducible crash after exiting from X to console. Now I just use "halt" from terminal to power off my computer to avoid this crash (and then fsck after reboot).
I have Radeon with xorg driver, wacom bamboo with driver from AUR and latest version of all packages. Have you seen similar problem?

I have this since xorg-server 1.7.x due to intel v. intel-legacy drivers' incompatibility.
Can you use console after you've logged into X (ctrl-alt-F2 etc.)? I can't.

That's not the case. I am able to switch to console with ALT+F1 and switch back. Everything works correctly in X. The only problem is quitting from it.
When I turn on my system it always starts in console, so I always call "startx". When I am going to turn it off I always logout from X and call "halt" from the console. It's no longer possible, so I call "halt" from X terminal. It's not problem with doing something - i can still use system as before, but I noticed crash so I think it's worth to resolve it, and I am asking - anyone seen something similar? Any Radeon users here? Or Wacom?

Lucky you.

This is the same for me except I cannot switch with alt-f1 or shutdown my machine blindly. The problem started after installing the linuxwacom drivers. Starting X, switching to tty2, typing `killall ck-launch session` (to stop the X server) and switching back to tty1 reveals that the X server does segfault on shutdown (i don't have the exact error message at the moment, but i can get it.)

I had this problem after a (very procrastinated) system wide update. I have an acer aspire one with a intel chipset.
I was able to fix the problem by enabling KMS.
Weirdly/ interestingly, I got the blank screen immediately using xmonad, whereas lxde worked until either I logged out or switched to a virtual console and tried to switch back. This makes me think autodetect/ hal have something to do with it. lxde works great, but xmonad is still on the fritz.

Any change in the matter of the subject? I've got similar problem on setup with Nvidia's GPU.
UPDATE
Ahhh… Never mind! After I removed old settings like some sections of xorg.conf, one hal policy and GDK_NATIVE_WINDOW in mozilla_common.sh everything felt into place. Silly me…
