/etc/fstab vs /etc/fstab.pacnew post upgrade today

Comparing the fstabs shows original /etc/fstab file had none where /etc/fstab.pacnew  has devpts and shm instead of none and none under <filesystem> and for shm <options> are changed from defaults to nodev, nosuid.
In addition the original has /dev/sda1   / ext3  defaults 0 1 and 2 entries for swap at bottom.  The.pacnew file does not.
Am I correct in keeping the original /etc/fstab and just making the devpts and shm changes before rm'ing the .pacnew file? Thx.

I just replaced the whole lines with devpts and shm in them with the new versions. The rest of the lines at the bottom of the old one are specific to your system and you should keep them.

For easy merging, I suggest "vimdiff".

Thx toad and ataraxia for yr responses.  I had done as ataraxia suggested and all seems to work fine w/o errors or alerts.
I'm old-fashioned and just opened 2 terminals one with each file to compare line by line since /etc/fstab is a small file.
Thx again.
