nagging sound problem solved

For several months using KDE4, I've been getting this message just after boot:

"The audio playback device HDA Intel (AD198x Analog) does not work.
Failing back to default."

In fact, I had no sound at all.

Finally, after reading a number of posts around the Net, I tried a suggestion from someone on a SuSE forum: install phonon-xine.

I did this (it's in Extra) and, voilà, I've got sound again. No more switching to Winders when I want to listen to music.

Maybe somebody else out there is having this problem. If so, I hope this does the trick for you.
