Hi!
I'm running 2.6.32-arch kernel on my netbook, with intel gma945 video chipset, using the i915 driver. My X randomly freezes, and it floods stdout with this error meggsage:
(EE) intel(0): Failed to submit batch buffer, expect rendering corruption or even a frozen display: Input/output error.
It happens about once a day, but interestingly, when I run Red Alert 2 from wine (which sets the screen to 640x480), the freeze occours in 2-3 minutes. It happens with kde and fluxbox too (so it's not compositing).
I think my problem is the same as this bug: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17123, but I couldn't find a solution there.
Here's some info:

lspci: http://pastebin.ca/1753460
xorg.conf: http://pastebin.ca/1753461
x stderr output: http://pastebin.ca/1753465
thanks for the help.

I can at least confirm on a MSI wind u100 (Mobile 945GME).
While I can't seem to find a good solution I can supply other related links:
here maintainer Marlock blames xorg for being too bleeding edge (I think that's what he's getting at, or maybe he does really want us to stop everything else and update xorg to an even more bleeding edge version):

very informative post:

while I have had freezes since turning off the screen powersave stuff has seemed to help:

of note I'm running
aur/xf86-video-intel-newest 2.10.0-2
but I'm thinking about moving to:
aur/xf86-video-intel-git
if I get another freeze today.

I have similar problem. Random screen freezing. Often occurs while browsing web or watching video (but thats what I do most of the time)
Dell D500 laptop with
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
it used to run rock stable in times "before KMS", but ever since some intel driver or xorg update screen freezes happen. I can Ctrl-Alt-F1 to console.
(On home PC ATI catalyst is giving similar headache, but there it freezes completely)
On console weird symptoms happen that some keypresses dont get recognized randomly. Its a pain to type password when you can't see is a letter was typed or not.
Tried intel-newest, intel-git without any change.
I blame xorg personally. 1.7 was not nice to me.

I also had problems with playing video and it was resolved with kernel 2.6.32.9

I have the exact same problem running 2.6.33-ARCH kernel.

I've got a similar problem with an old Dell Optiplex equipped with an Intel 845G integrated video adapter. Stock Kernel 2.6.34-ARCH is installed, along with xorg-server 1.8.1-902-1, and xf86-intel-video 2.11.0-2.
However instead of flickering the screen, or freezing for a split second or two, my screen just locks up completely. It occurs randomly at any time using any program (even just an xterm), but most frequently after the computer has been on for about an hour or two. Subsequent attempts to start X just ends up leaving me with a black screen and a moveable mouse cursor. The only way I can get back into X at all is to reboot the computer.
Also oddly enough, this problem appears less often without any xorg.conf file than it does when I have even the most basic xorg.conf file.
Update: the latest intel video driver (xf86-video-intel 2.12.0) from upstream freedesktop.org sources limits the freeze up and gpu hang errors for me. The only time they crop up is in special instances of using sdl or other 3D related operations.
