cups 1.4.3-2

I have a Samsung ML-1640 and my CUPS install won't see it as existing when plugged in via usb (add printer only finds scsi, and find new printer does nothing, when in localhost:631). Just worth noting, and I hope someone knows a workaround?

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

Have you looked at the archwiki??

Seems like you need "splix - Samsung drivers for SPL (Samsung Printer Language) printers ", its found in the repo...
Also try blacklist the usblp module if you have any problems.

Did it work before an upgrade, or did you post in wrong forum-section??

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

I installed splix, and it worked prior to the upgrade. I followed the archwiki instructions to the letter, as well as the instructions from samsung themselves.

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

The packages that were upgraded were cups, cups-pdf and splix, as well as a yaourt install of the samsung-ml1640 driver package.

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

I dont have any samsung printers to test with, but if anyone else see this thread, i believe they would be interested in perhaps some more info.

Ie. what packages(including versions), dmesg when connecting printer, evt. CUPS configuration files and/or logfiles smile

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

Possible workaround

pacman -Rd cups
yaourt -S cups-usblp

/etc/rc.conf

...
MODULES=(... usblp ...)
...

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

For some unknown reason it worked, randomly... No idea why... Thanks for all the suggestions.

I tried this and it worked, for now.  I hope it keeps working.  I've been having issues for a few weeks now, which I attribute to the cups update.  Works on and off.  Very frustrating.

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

I had exactly the same problem. There is a PKGBUILD in the AUR specifically for the ML-1640 driver (here).
After installing the package, my printer appeared in the CUPS dialog and printing works flawlessly.

(Edit: Sorry, I just informed myself about what yaourt is and hence you seemingly already have the specific driver installed. Nevermind this then. smile)

Re: cups 1.4.3-2

I couldn't get my Epson SX415 to work until I installed cups-usblp from AUR.
Thanks wink
