I downloaded archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso.
I unmounted the pendrive.
Would i format the pendrive with ext3/ext4 or fat32 or fat16 format?
After that i would do dd if=archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso of=/dev/sda
If i use unetbootin, should i format the pendrive with ext3/ext4 or fat32 or fat16 format?
Has anyone used unetbootin to install archlinux from pendrive/usb?

I did:
dd if=arch.iso of=/dev/sda
But after setting bios boot option to usb and reboot,it's not booting from usb.
What's the problem?
I get the normal grub menu.

Did you check to see if the pendrive is actually /dev/sda?

Yes, firts check if your usb is /dev/sda (probably isn't) with this command (like root):
# fdisk -l
Usuaylly /dev/sda/ is the harddrive with the root partition, and /dev/sdb/ the first usb that you put in the PC.

No it's /dev/sda.
If i do fdisk -l , i get /dev/hda1 to /dev/hda........ for other partition of the hard disk.
/dev/sda is for pendrive.
It is ok with dd if=arch.iso of=/dev/sda.
But what would i do after this to install archlinux from pendrive?
I set the bios to boot from usb , but it doesn't work.
I get the normal grub menu.
Has anyone installed archlinux from pendrive using dd command?

What machine are you using? May be your BIOS is broken.

It appears you are dd'ing the image correctly, so the problem must be with your hardware. Are you able to boot other USB images on that pendrive? Does the pendrive work with other systems?
