problems with intel xf86 drivers & a P4ge-MX board

Hello, mi name is andres, from argentina. I'm using arch from two years ago, as desktop user. Recently i had to reinstall all the system. My pc is a p4ge-mx, with 1.5 Gb of ram and a p4 2.0 Ghz processor. When i had to install the video driver i realized that the old intel-legacy driver was not on the mirror any more sad.

when i installed the intel driver, my sistem works well, i started x and blackbox, etc.., but at the time the Xs freezes. Its a radmon time, not at certain seconds or minutes. the message that i can read  in the tty6 is: intel_bufmgr_gem.c:1052 error setting domain <randomnumerhere> input/output error.

my xorg file is:

Re: problems with intel xf86 drivers & a P4ge-MX board

I have intel-legacy 32-bit drivers and xorg-server 1.6, because the current one is incompatible with the -legacy drivers. If you want to give them a try, e-mail me.,

Re: problems with intel xf86 drivers & a P4ge-MX board

My graphic chipset is Intel 82852/88855 GM. I am using xorg-server 1.7.

So karol do you advice me to downgrade xorg server than try with old drivers?

I will upload the Xorg conf, however doing search on xp and then applying them to arch in a dualboot system takes both my time and passsion.
I don't have another pc, so I have to handle with this situation since I get a stable working desktop enivroment for reading and writing threads.

Re: problems with intel xf86 drivers & a P4ge-MX board

I can send you all the apps you need for the basic X to work and a script that will install them for you.
I have a lean setup, so it works for me and my 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE. If you have a lot of apps that need a certain version of xorg-server to work, you'll have to downgrade them all, which may not be feasible.

The apps that you are talking about, are they for X 1.6?

Re: problems with intel xf86 drivers & a P4ge-MX board

Yes, you need them for xorg-server to work:
intel-dri-7.5.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
libdrm-2.4.19-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
libgl-7.5.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
libxxf86misc-1.0.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-evdev-2.2.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-keyboard-1.3.2-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-mouse-1.4.0-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-video-intel-legacy-2.3.2-3-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-video-vesa-2.2.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86miscproto-0.9.3-1-any.pkg.tar.gz
xorg-server-1.6.3.901-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xorg-server-utils-7.4-7-i686.pkg.tar.gz

My graphic chipset is Intel 82852/88855 GM. I am using xorg-server 1.7.

Are you sure you got it right?

82852/82855 seems more likely.

Awww, don't cry, I'm not mad at you ;P

If X crashes instantly: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16974 + a suggested fix: http://www.iragan.com/linux/i855GM/
If you're having problems maybe you can write to https://bbs.archlinux.org/profile.php?id=28841 as (s)he provided the fix

If your X crashes after some uptime: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14594

I looked at the solution but understand nothing. I tried to run make kernel  but ended up with there is no .config file error in the even there was leoglas558

The files I've sent you worked for a bunch of people with old intel cards, but that doesn't mean they work for every card.
Some people suggest using the current xorg-server and intel drivers but an older or patched kernel. Some others say that it works for them only on xorg-server 1.7 and so on.
Once you find the configuration that works for you it's more or less smooth sailing, until you get adventurous and try to upgrade something. That's the beauty of unsupported hardware.

You may try Debian / Ubuntu - they use patched kernels and drivers, so even when the (e.g. drivers) version is the same, they might actually work for you.
