how to share wifi connection on same subnet

My setup includes a laptop, and a desktop.

I'm sharing my wifi connection to my desktop with a short ethernet cable.

my laptop's local ip is 192.168.1.21 it has a bridged connection to my desktop (the desktop has no wifi). I configured it in network manager, under IPv4 settings with the method "Shared to other computers"

desktop is receiving internet device is enp3s0 and ipv4 setting is automatic dhcp

the desktop's ip is showing as

10.42.0.100

Is it possible to have them both on the same subnet, so I can test development apps without having troubles with the ip not being same as my wifi because of the subnet difference.

would a cheap desktop switch solve this issue, something like this for example

Ignoring "why would the subnet difference be a problem itfp): A cheap wifi dongle would probably be better.

Let's assume you're not going to buy a wifi-dongle, why post the different segments a problem to "test development apps"?
