Hi!!
I have installed frostwire (4.13.1 BETA) on my box using pacman. It seems to have installed all dependancies (esp. Java) with it.
But now when I try to start it from terminal (as root), I get the splash screen, but only that and nothing more. Even the status bar on the splash doesnt change, and I don't get to see the app running even after long time.
When I press CTRL+C to stop it, this is the messege I get :
[root@myhost TTF]# frostwire
Starting FrostWire...
Java exec found in PATH. Verifying...
Suitable java version found [java = 1.6.0]
Configuring environment...
Loading FrostWire:

Something went wrong with FrostWire.
Maybe you're using the wrong version of Java?
(FrostWire is tested against and works best with with Sun's JRE, Java 1.4+)
The version of Java in your PATH is:
java version "1.6.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-b105, mixed mode, sharing)
What's wrong???

Can you confirm that your frostwire package is up to date? The current version is 4.13.1.5.1-1, and it is available in the [unstable] repo.

I've just updated it to 4.13.1.6, after testing it here. Both versions work as intended on an up-to-date Arch system.

Actually the problem was solved by reinstalling the package!!
Also, now that I have come to think of it, the previous time I had ran it as ROOT, and this time I run it as normal user. Maybe that was the 'root' of the problem!!!

I also cant get frostwire to work. Installed and reinstalled is many times (as root).
What to do?

Well exactly the same as in the first post.

Have you tried to run the app as NON-ROOT i.e. as a normal user????

of course same deal, it just hangs when its loading.

You could try installing a lower version of Frostwire!! I can't comment much because right now I'm not using frostwire myself!!

Nevermind, I downgraded it to version frostwire-4.13.1.5.1-1.pkg.tar.gz. However its the same deal. But when I run as non-root
this is what I get:
Starting FrostWire...
Java exec found in PATH. Verifying...
Suitable java version found [java = 1.6.0]
Configuring environment...
Loading FrostWire:
[b]ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 5729, errno = 0[/b]

Ok....I'v reinstalled Frostwire on my box for testing, and it seems to work fine( though it takes a bit time to startup)
Maybe the problem is not with frostwire itself, but with Java (JRE). To test, you may install other JRE-based apps like Limewire or Azureus , and see if they start.
Installed and reinstalled is many times
Just a thought, have you tried completely removing jre as well, and then reinstalling??

Well I dunno what it was but I just installed the latest version of frostwire in GNOME 2.18 and it works just fine. I guess that frostwire and the kdemod dont mix.
