Is time again for another interview, this one will feature in the newsletter scheduled for release on December 3, 2007. This time, the interview will be, with the creator and former leader of the Arch Linux Operating System, Judd Vinet. Following the style of the interview with Aaron Griffin, the ones asking the questions will be the community. Please, read below for the guidelines.
Guidelines: (Please, follow them)
* You may post as many questions as you want, just try to put them all in a single post.
* You may post humor questions, but please, try to include serious questions as well.
* This thread needs to be kept clean, so don't go Off-Topic, or Dusty will have no mercy on us. (Maybe a Taco will make him reconsider)
* apeiro can ask Judd Vinet any questions he feels he would like to hear answered.
* phrakture is not banned from asking neither.
* If you bought Judd Vinet's leather pants, you can't ask for your money back.
Now, on with the questions.
Thanks

I have two questions.
1. Do you see ArchLinux eventually taking over the user base of distributions that share similar ideals such as Slackware/Gentoo/Crux etc..?
2. What window manager and desktop environment do you use?
Offline
I also got only two questions:
1.) How do you like the idea of an OpenBSD-based ArchBSD or pacmaned-OpenBSD (of course only, if anyone would have the knowledge and would do it)? Is it against "the arch way" in your eyes or would you consider it as a good idea as a "stable, BSD-based" arch-branch?
2.) Are you He-Man?

I'll be shallow and ask two general questions:
1) Where do you see Linux being headed to, and do you feel the future desktop OS market will become more "pluralistic"? (I started with computers in the mid 80s when the home OS market was pluralistic, and it didn't only have upsides, though the situation isn't necessarily comparable.)
2) Are there any upcoming IT technologies that you are really anticipating?

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Do you plan on continuing to contribute code, ideas, packages (and interviews!) to Arch or are you planning to divorce yourself from it entirely in the future? Do you think you'll ever switch distros? Are you enjoying your newfound free time or are you bored already?

1. What has changed for you since you stepped down from the project leader position?
2. Are you happy with how Arch is run now (by Aaron and others)?
3. Are you using Ubuntu now?

Why did my arch break as soon as phrakture took the lead?

Seems like all the serious question are taken... Guess I could steal a question from the latest newsletter... Actually, steal sounds a bit wrong, lets say I borrowed it instead.
Do you think Aaron Griffin can lift a car over his head?

1. Can you lift a car over your head? I heard all the cool devs are doing it.
2. Taco or choppers? taco taco...
3. boxers or brief?
4. Arch was a big project that took several years to stabilized. Given that fact, how did such project affect your life in general?
5. What do you think your life should have been if you did something else?
6. Anything you wish you were able to implement on arch but were not able to do?
7. What do you think are the most valuable proponent of such a huge project that eventually propelled it to a success? (arch and pacman as an example)
thanks,
jerry

I know is hard to make good questions to Judd Vinet, even harder when the community didn't had the same level of interaction they had with Aaron Griffin. As he were more accessible to the users. Judd Vinet is not to blame for this, he just didn't had enough time. So, this post is to ask you guys, to keep posting questions, think hard of any good questions the media would like to ask Judd Vinet because of his retirement as a leader of the Arch Linux OS.
If not enough questions are asked by the end of this week, I'll have to proceed with another interview and postpone Judd Vinet's interview for the next scheduled newsletter after that, December 17, 2007. So please, cooperation is needed, this is going to be the first interview after his retirement as the leader of Arch. Thanks.

I have a few questions for Judd:
1. What should I use to clean my brand new LCD monitor?
2. Which is the best time of the year to apply compost to my lawn and how much should I apply per square meter?
3. At the begining, why did you pick the name Arch Linux for your distro and what other names did you consider?
4. Many of my feminist friends have suggested that Arch's package manager should be renamed "pacperson" instead of "pacman". What do you think?
Thank you.
Jorge.

I have a couple too:
1. What's your favorite DE/WM and why?
2. Do you impress women with the fact that you created Arch Linux?
3. Have you ever owned an Amiga?
4. Which other distro do you secretly like/admire?
Thnxz,

Yeah, good question. Running is not enough.... or should I start using deodorant?

What's your favorite development environment?
Do you have a favorite programming language, and if so, why do you like it?

Do you think Arch is complete/finished/ready? I.E. do you feel towards Arch like Donald Knuth feels towards the software he's written?

Are using Arch to record/edit/mix audio and/or midi sequencing ? Do you feel any limitations using Linux as a digital audio workstation OS ?

Do you play any games? If so, what is your favourite game/platform?

* When you gave the control over to Phrakture, were all steps he needs to do in order to successfully lead Arch (for example HOWTO make a new Release) well documented or where there lots of undocumented task you always did without much noticing them, which you had to teach/tell Phrakture about? (Like "lifting a car over you head" for example )
