Archlinux Colour Scheme

Hey guys and gals.

First, let me say something quick and in bold, pretty letters:
This thread is a simple straw poll.  It does not indicate any intent by the dev team to change the Archlinux colour scheme.  This is all because I'm just curious.  In fact, I haven't even brought this up on the dev discussion list.  Kapiche?

Having gotten that out of the way, I'm curious.  Let's pretend Archlinux were considering a total facelift to go with the new logo that will (eventually, heh) come out of the logo contest.  What colour scheme would you, the community, choose if the decision were given?

Would you choose greens?
Would you choose purples?
Would you be daring, and go for a rugged plaid look?
Would you keep things just as they are?

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 87#p290287  <-- this post here got me thinking about color-schemey stuff, and I became curious as to what you all thought.

Maybe this will keep all you artsy people busy until I can get some logo contest news out the door.  big_smile

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

Even if it is "mainstreamish", I would choose blue. But instead of this light "mainstream-blue" I would prefer a very deep blue. Blue like the ocean. So intensive blue, that people feel like holiday, when they see it. Blue as ink (not on paper, but if it is still in a bottle). Ya know what I mean?

Edit: As I just saw my avatar: Blue like the darker blue-parts of my avatar! wink I think blue like the lighter parts would also be ok. Just a clean but very intensive blue.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

My order of preference (1st -> last choice): violet, light green, redhat red, and finally a deep vibrant blue.  However, I do think it depends on the logo and overall feel that the logo casts.

I do feel that the current colour scheme is too murky for my tastes--like a desaturated purple-blue.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

Personally I'm not a huge fan of blue...  Having said that, I think it's better to settle for a conservative color/combination of colors -- black, gray, white are my favorite actually because they're most neutral and look good with all other colors.

Agreed on all accounts... I think a greyscale website/theme would be very nice indeed.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

I like the current color scheme, heh I actually kind of like the murkiness that thayer seems opposed to. If we were to change I'd say either a darker blue or maybe a green could look good. Though I agree it could depend on what the new logo looks like.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

I'm not that good with color, so when I think of the word "simplicity", it's usually only black/white and an additional color that comes to mind, the additional color could be anything, as long as it's not excessively being used.

Check out archive.org - the original site was black BG with white/offwhite text. It was neat

Yeah, that's where I found the old school Arch Linux logos when the contest was first announced smile

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

I'd stick with more or less how it is. I've always thought the logotype at the top is a weird colour (is it just me, or is it a darker shade than the rest of the site?), but apart from that, it's good. As others have said, blue may not be to everyone's taste, but it's a good neutral colour that nobody's going to go "yeeeeuch!" at. smile

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

I like pale colours. The current pale grey/blue is nice; green or  yellow tints I'd like too.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

then again, it could be setup with multiple color schemes and be user specific via say forum settings or something and it only works when you are logged in.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

I'm with peets. And I don't think it should be in grayscale 'cause that's just plain dull and boring, it would need to have some color to feel more alive.

Re: Archlinux Colour Scheme

As long as the color scheme matches the new logo, it's fine by me. If I were to chose the logo, then the color scheme would be: white (30%), light grey (40%), dark grey (25%) and finally bright yellow (5%).

Zl.

..And you're propably wearing them too tight ripped black jeans also with DK patch stitched on your back pocket.. so, it's a +1 for Misfit138 big_smile
No, for real I've kind of gotten over the blue scene atleast. Every default layout seems to be blue and they're even trying to sell a blue christmas nowadays? Actually I'm sort of getting sick of blue more minute by minute.. Oh and another thing I just can't stand is this new kind of cool "I was just playing with vector graphics and I found this cool gardiet tool, or whatever it was called, but it's cool anyway" sort of thinking. Dont get me wrong. please smile There are good looking logos and icons etc. done with basic vector stuff and they look nice and fancy, almost glamourish, but they're just not something I'd use. What they lack in my mind is "soul". I like it rugged and sort of raw like the Gant icons are. No clean colors, no clean lines, no glares, nothing fancy about them , but working like a train's toilet!

Hobla.. Kind of went off topic, those quarks' colors look good... buuut... no blue. Add something "dirty" from the orange/brown sector of the color palette next to thet green and I'll let you pass wink
