This happened yesterday after i decided to install arch on my desktop(its been on my laptop for a month or two now)
i cannot sync with any server at all on either my laptop or my desktop both with the same error messages.
the error:

Checking for package upgrades...
no upgrades found
this is from my laptop as i have not been able to install a DE on my PC because of this error.
i have no idea what the cause is asit happens on the older pacman in the PC(the version on the install CD) and the newest pacman on my laptop.
both share the same connection via a wireless router. only the laptop is on the wireless.

you tried different repositories, not different servers. If you want the normal "stable" packages, you should only use core, extra and community.
About the failures, I think the belnet ftp server seems to be down as i experience similar problems, when trying to connect to it with a web browser it asks for a password, the same occured ealier this year (I think there also was a thread about it here).
So to solve your problems, just choose a different server by editing the files for each repo in /etc/pacman.d/. Just put the one you want to use on top of the list.

i have tried different servers. i just posted the results from belnet because that was the one i had listed at the time. i get the same error no matter which i try. the only change is that the server listed in the error is different.
also, i like my repos the way they are. i haven't experienced any problems(yet) and i haven't fiddled with that lately.

Same here.I think they do some maintenance as this is a calm period in Academia.

okay, after trying 5 more servers i finally found one that works.
okay, maybe the servers were just down for maintenance over the quiet period. i just thought it unlikely for me to hit 6 in a row and then a further 4 in a row later on.

ftp://ftp.belnet.be is up and packages/ is populated with other distros, but archlinux isn't there.

Belnet is back, just -Syu-ed successfully.

Belnet is not back, I just tried it and it is as vacant wrote, no archlinux in packages/. There are packages in mirror/ but these are old ones. Maybe they stll have to update their archlinux database?

I've mailed support@belnet.be requesting some details. I'll also check our end, in case the problem is there.

yeah belnet is back with oldpackages in a different address. think they'll be updated soon?

They changed the access-paths,so go to http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/ and adapt paths accordingly.
Good luck!

mianka, you are correct. Belnet is now syncing again, but the path has changed as described above. Anyone who needs to use this mirror should edit /etc/pacman.d/* accordingly.
I am waiting for further information from Belnet regarding the permanence of this change. If it is not going to be reverted, we will update the mirror files as required.
