Now that you mention it... But frankly, I'd rather turn the machine off manually on halt than wait 5 minutes for one boot... But that's just me.

No problem.
I wouldn't mind trying a static /dev, but I think udev would still be needed for hotpluggable devices...
While 'acpi=off' saves me some boot time, I just don't like reaching for that power button when I halt the system. I really have grown accustomed to the machine turning off by itself.
