I just installed Xgl, backed up my startx script, and made the changes to it that are described in the Xgl wiki entry, and when I ran startx, I got this:
[arew264@presarinator .fluxbox]$ startx
xauth: creating new authority file /home/arew264/.serverauth.7560
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/xgl/libglxext.so: undefined symbol: CALL_ProgramParameter4fvNV
Fatal server error:
No GLX modules loaded
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/xgl/libglxext.so: undefined symbol: CALL_ProgramParameter4fvNV
FatalError re-entered, aborting
No GLX modules loaded
xinit: Server error.
My graphics driver is FGLRX (the ATI proprietary driver), and the line of startx that was trying to start Xgl was:
xinit $clientargs -- /usr/bin/Xgl -br -ac -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer $serverargs -deferglyphs 16 &
Googling around, it seems that CALL_ProgramParameter4fvNV was removed from the GL API and Xgl needs to be updated to reflect the changes. I think, anyway.
I'll keep looking around. Does anyone know how to fix this? It would seem that by nature something is out of date.

I experience the same problems and i don't know how to fix this. Googling around i only found something from sept07
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/x … 28435.html
Although this was also a problem with libglext.so i don't think it's the same
Beside that i didn't even find someone reporting these issues and until know i thought i'd have a serious configuration issue due to pure dumbness

Are you using FGLRX as well?

The same here, for what I read, the latest fglrx drivers are not fully compatible with the latest xorg version.

Yes, i forgot to mention that i also use fglrx/catalyst.

Try to recompile yourself xgl, with the pkgbuild in community. I compiled it with nvidia, it might be broken ( ??? ). Try yourself and solve this doubt

Build fails
-> bsdtar -x -f mesa-20080130.tar.bz2
mesa/src/glu/mesa/nurbsutl.c: Premature end of bzip2 compressed data: I/O Error
bsdtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.

Now it compiles but i still get the same error when trying to start xgl- undefined symbol in libglxext.so and (followed by that) "no glx modules loaded".

I just switched to the open source driver
I still can't get xcompmgr to work with Fluxbox though, everything starts flickering and screwing up as soon as I start xcompmgr.
It's strange because xcompmgr works in Gnome.

I seem to be having this same problem after compiling XGL from source. If it is a problem with the proprietary ATI driver, is there a way to revert back to a known stable one?

Same problem and errors on nVidia GeForce 8600M GS card.

You don't need XGL.

Got the same error with my /usr/bin/startxgl script. no idea what to do. beg ya for help

Yes, xgl is broken, even if you compile it yourself against the catalyst binary. Just use the open source driver with AIGLX. It's the only thing that works.

I use nvidia legacy drivers from repos and I have exactly the same issue.

Uhm, at this point I think XGL is no longer needed; I will remove it from community and move it to unsupported.
Use opensource driver instead.
