2.22.0 should be done by sunday for x86_64. i686 will follow one week later.
I'm building with libtool 2.2 and gcc 4.3, so GNOME 2.22 stays in testing until gcc 4.3 and libtool have moved to core, which will happen after Tobias has created the new release ISO files.
This would be the ultimate reason for me to come back to x86_64 but thanks to my stupid college final project which only compiles and run on 32 bits (stupid simulator I have to use) I'll wait one more week, but it will surely be worth. Thanks JGC!

Faster? Doubt it.
why not? every release since, dunno, 2.6 has been faster than the previous.

Is metacity compiled with composite enabled (and turn on by default) ? I am eager to try.

Thanks JGC - that would be quite snappy

I expect a little trick with gconf schemas, but I may be wrong.

Thanks, Cimi. :-)
Question: Will Gnome 2.22 include the updates to Clearlooks that I've been seeing on your blog?
Offline
Well I installed 2.22 from testing. I just had to build gtk-engines 2.14.0 and gnome-applets 2.22.0 Everything works fine.
Just one thing that doesn't work: Totem Youtube Plugin. I updated all the gstreamer stuff but still I can't get it too work.

which updates?
if you mean the new theme no, I should update gnome-themes-extras before
But updates to the engines are part of gtk-engines 2.14

I don't want to go too much off topic, but what's this plugin you are talking about? I've never heard of it, is it a new feature?

I took a look--x86_64 testing has the new packages, i686 does not. As JGC mentioned, I think we can expect them this weekend. Or at least I hope so!

Repository for testing, official PKGBUILDs, i686
1) Compiled with a bleeding edge testing system, makepkg.conf is at default values, so you (JGC) can pick the packages and place them in the official testing repository.
2) I've compiled the whole gnome, except gstreamer (which is not part of gnome I guess) and alacarte (doesn't build here). It's a complete gnome archlinux's build.
3) USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
[gnome]

Obviusly thanks to JGC for the PKGBUILDs...

Don't know it exactly, but in Ubuntu you need the package python-gdata to get the plugin working. The package is in AUR, i think it is worth a try.

yep, you need python-gdata and also the new gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, i believe. at least some new dmuxer is needed, else totem won't play the videos. I built myself gnome 2.21.x, 2.22 and latest gstreamer packages for my own some weeks ago and noticed that too.
so you won't get the youtube plugin working without new gstreamer packages. i filed a bug report on that one and it got closed because gstreamer was simply too old. it works fine now
