I'm looking for an easy alternative for truecrypt, just to encrypt some files. I hate the new version, can't unmount things because of locks.

If you just need to encrypt some files: http://www.madboa.com/geek/gpg-quickstart/
You can downgrade truecrypt easily though.

Hm, how can I downgrade? There is just the newest version on their site as far as I see it.

If you usually install truecrypt with pacman, the previous version may be in your package cache. Otherwise, it's not so easy (despite what carlocci says ) - truecrypt do not provide access to the source code for previous versions, so you would need to look around. Someone may have it somewhere. If you find it, you can then use the PKGBUILDs for the previous version to build your own Arch packages.

I assumed from his post he already used truecrypt (since he said the new truecrypt)
I assumed he was smart enough not to delete currentversion-1 packages from his cache (since he is using arch).
Anyway even if he did delete his pacman cache, http://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html
Out of sync mirrors have a reason after all.

I don't think I deleted anything, but on second thought I don't really want to have outdated software all the time. gnupg is fine for my needs, thx.

You can use my repo. I have compiled a truecrypt4 pkg.
Add repo:
[stenoweb]
Server = http://www.stenoweb.it/repo/i686
And install old truecrypt:
pacman -Sy truecrypt4 truecrypt4-utils
Byez.
