2.6.26 Kernel?

I am very new to Arch and I'm wondering when the 2.6.26 Kernel will be in the repos to replace the current 2.6.25?

Thanks smile

There's no rule but chances are that you'll see it soon in [TESTING]

Whats the feature you are so anxious about?

Well, it's summer and vacation time, so don't be supriced if the turnaround time for the new kernel is a bit slower than the "usual" 1-2 weeks smile

Hmm, I think I'll check it out... It might get my wifi working!

Edit: Yes! AR5007EG is now supported! No more ndiswrapper for me!

Yep, it and the new nvidia drivers are working perfectly so far, along with my Realtek network controllers that just started working with this kernel release!  smile

Oh man. It is about time they got this to work. I was getting sick and tired of the slowness of this forthcoming support. Madwifi drivers have usually been good to me, and this is good news that they are keeping up with their development.
Out of curiosity, does the interface come up as ath0 or wlan0?

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

wlan0. There's also a wmaster0 interface, not sure what that's good for...

Edit: This is with ath5k FWIW, not madwifi. You don't have to install any madwifi stuff for it to work.:D

(Ain't the kernel devs awesome?)

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

Hmm... Apparently not, I might need to modprobe some stuff or it could just not be supported right now. Wireless works fine AFAICT though.

Edit: nope acer_wmi has been loaded, it just doesn't work.

(FWIW I got it working with a previous kernel - I had to install acerhk, which isn't compatible with 2.6.26. The switch never worked though.)

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

I didn't have any compatibility issues (yay for non-shitty hardware) previously or now...and the 2.6.26 kernel actually seems quite a decent bit peppier on my system.

Great, now I just need to wait for my webcam driver to be updated. Or I could compile it myself and hope nothing has changed that would break it. Decisions, decisions...

edit: Yay, it broke fglrx! Dodgy graphics galore! hmm

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

so what's the norm for kernels
a week after release it goes in testing, and (barring problems) another 1-2 weeks in testing before switching over to core?

It goes to testing until we get developers to signoff on it working. Kernel signoffs usually take a tad longer, because we try to make sure all the modules are working before they go live.

My ar5007eg is still not working. Ifconfig shows wmaster0 and wlan0.

iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 No scan results
iwconfig wlan0 essid ***
dhclient wlan0
...
wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801
wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801
...
No DHCPOFFERS received.
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.

Did everyone else get this working?
sad

I'm not getting any scan results either on my AR2424, everything looks fine though, it worked perfectly on MadWifi.

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

I cannot find out how to get the (internal usb) webcam turned on in 2.2.26.
I uninstalled linux-uvc-svn to get pacman to install new kernel.
Searching for help has proved fruitless on google, wiki, etc.
I don't knkow where else to look/ask.
everythhing else seems to be working so far on dell inspiron 1525 (possibly not firewire).

EDIT/UPDATE: Camera works as of 7/25/08, this morning's update (2.6.26-2). Thanks for all your good work.

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

Grr... It looks like the wifi only works in appearance, not in fact. Pathetic.

Edit: Wait a minute, WiCD wasn't configured properly... So I still have no idea if it actually works.

Re: 2.6.26 Kernel?

is there a way to know what has changed between  2.6.26-1 and -2 (seems an Arch dev change, not a source change)
is there somewhere that talks about these changes?
