@Cosay: Thank you, sir I must say that your screenshots made me kinda want to play with evilwm...
@Acecero: Thanks. The logout thingy calls a zenity based script that can logout/shutdown/reboot/suspend/hibernate, basically the whole shebang. It's kind of specific to my system, but if you want to have a look I posted it here.
Conkyrc uses quite a few scripts, and depends on two cron jobs -- I made a tarball which includes most of the stuff. One of the cron jobs runs the (included) gmail1.py script every 5 minutes and saves the output to a file in /tmp which is then read by the somewhat misnamed check_updates.sh script (also included in the tarball). The other cronjob basically runs pacman -Syuw every four hours (for both my main 64bit system and the 32bit chroot) so that the check_updates.sh script can check if there are updates ready to be installed with a simple pacman -Qu command.
I hope this sort of makes sense...
Yes I mostly get it but it's complicated for me to do, since I don't know how to script or program yet...
Thank you though.

Scripting is not too difficult to learn... I'm not a programmer myself, and a few months ago I didn't know how to script anything either... Just get yourself a nice shell scripting book for reference, make a habit of reading scripts you come across and trying to understand what it is that they do, try to apply the solutions you find to solve your own problems, and you should be able to start writing your own scripts in no time. It's a very useful skill to have.

It's listen media player... pretty nice, but I'm only using it until amarok2 is released (qgtkstyle w/ qt4 will make it look native)

I agree. Personally, the book I found helpful was the book on Bash published by O'Reilly, which also covers things like configuration files and the lesser known features of Bash. I believe that it was updated not too long ago when Bash 3 came out.

Late in the month, but I just got my POS HP laptop up and running again. I had been running openbox for a long time, but I decided I'm not above gnome. Anyone know of a place to get a nice arch logo to replace the foot on the menu?
This is the one I used when I was running Gnome:
archlinux on Macbook Pro 10,1
