Updates messed up ncurses?

I current run Arch 64 with Openbox as my WM and after a bunch of updates yesterday all ncurses displays are messed up in the console. I use Terminal as my console. I first noticed this when I ran centerim. At first I thought the centerim update was messed it up but I then ran finch and the same thing was happening with it as well. As you can see all | lines turned into @ signs:

Any ideal what is going on?

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Looks okay here, although I wonder why ncurses isn't a dependency for centerim.
What is your locale setting?

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Looked fine until day before yesterday when I did all the updates. I run pacman -Syu everday so it was all new updates for x64.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Well if you have testing enabled, there is a new ncurses supplied by them. It broke zsnes and aumix on my box. A simple recompile fixed aumix, but zsnes is a no go.

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

I wonder if I can just upgrade the one package. This is my main machine and I do not think it would be wise to run testing repo on it.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

I found something similiar already posted here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53767 but it is for alsa-utils and not centerim.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

It's nothing to do with testing, the ncurses move has already happened.

I also run an UTF-8 locale and never had font rendering issues related to the upgrade, on two systems. One with KDE3 and the other with KDE4 and testing repo.
There have been some overlooked apps needing a recompile to run, but nothing related to wrong characters.

Edit: Ok, seems like an Arch64-only issue and I only run i686. Next time I'll take a closer look at the sub-forum. ;-]

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Does rebuilding centerim fix this?  I probably missed it...  Please file a bug report.

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Yes building from source fixes this completely. I downloaded the source 4.22.5 from
http://www.centerim.org/download/releases/
But I would much rather pacman control the package updates and so forth.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

I am reading about ABS right now to build this without ./configure && make && make install until a official fix is made.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

I'm sure you have found them by now but here are the wiki links you want:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ABS
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Makepkg

ABS is one of the coolest things about Arch as it makes it trivial to rebuild a package.  I am rebuilding the official centerim package now.

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

I rebuilt the package using ABS and now it works perfectly. Thanks for the links, I just used the wiki page for ABS. I have been using arch for about 5 months and I never new about ABS just pacman and AUR packages. Very cool.

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Besides issues like this what is another good reason to use ABS instead of AUR or pacman besides building a package specific to your machine?

Thanks

Re: Updates messed up ncurses?

Sometimes you may want a configuration option that the Arch package does not supply.  Also, it makes it easy to try an updated version of a package the second a new release happens.  Most of the time it is just a change to the pkgver and pkgrel.
