I have been install the new version of compiz from repos. I restart the computer and I run compiz executing compiz-manager but this happens:

Arch is i686, slightly modified stock kernel, latest nvidia modules on Geforce Go 7900 GS

community/compizconfig-python 0.7.8-1
community/fusion-icon 20080313-1
community/libcompizconfig 0.7.8-1
I also tried
$ compiz --replace --indirect-rendering &
which killed metacity, but no window-decorators visible
I tried to switch the window decorator via fusion-icon with no effect and
$ emerald --replace &
had no effect either
neither compiz nor emerald crashed during this

I don't get it, you guys get the exact same error and I can't reproduce it on both my machines (x86_64 and i686)...

The segfault in compiz-manager doesn't worry me that much.
I just want compiz running with window decorators :-)
as said I had no problems running 0.7.6 with the exact same config
also switching from compizconfig-gconf backend to flat-file via ccsm doesn't make any difference.

compiz-manager is just a wrapper script which calls compiz with the required options, so most likely it is compiz segfaulting.
you can try my xorg.conf [1] to see if it makes any difference

I commented some options of my xorg.conf based on pressh xorg. I try commenting the synaptcs touchpad, but the segfault still happen:

After switching from compizconfig-gconf backend to flat file backend in ccsm
compiz & emerald work when launched with
compiz-manager --replace
though all my old plugin settings are gone now :-)
seems like it's a bug in a plugin or some setting values have changed from 0.7.6 to 0.7.8 ?
I echoed $COMPIZ_OPTIONS just before line 383 in the script
which are --ignore-desktop-hints --replace --loose-binding
However unchecking indirect-rendering in fusion-icon doesn't do the trick and even restarting a working compiz-config from fusion-icon crashes.

I finally found out the solution.
With the tip of gimpel, I reset the configuration to default values through CompizConfig and the compiz back work.
Edit: I found out the problematic plugin: Resizeinfo
When I active this plugin on CompizConfig, segfault back...
I recommend reset the configurations and reconfigure the compiz to avoid problems

After resetting my gconf backend config.
I activated some of the plugins I used with 0.7.6
seems the "Fenster-Skalier-Informationen" plugin (must be something like window-scaling-information in english)
crashes compiz.

same problem here!
my solution:
-i deactivated the resizeinfo plugin in ccsm -> exported my configuration to a file
-deleted the whole compiz directory under ~/.config (made a backup first)
-restarted compiz (fusion-plugin) -> it works
-imported my settings!
so everythings back to normal...just the resizeinfo plugin is not working!

same problem here, just fixed it by disabling resizeinfo, and reloading the wm from fusion icon, nothing else.
now i have my compiz wm working again...yay
thanks for telling us the problematic plugin alessandro

should be fixed in compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.7.8-2

Yes, I tested here and the plugin Resize Info works again.
Thanks pressh for fix this problem.

Hi, I have Compiz Fusion + Emerald + AWN as desktop environment. No KDE, no GNOME, no Openbox or whatever. I am using Compiz Fusion, so no vanilla desktop environment utilities available.
Everytime when I upgrade Compiz Fusion Plugins, the plugin in the directory $HOME/.compiz/plugins/<plugin> are not updated automatically. The new plugins are always landed to /usr/lib/compiz. Everytime when plugins are updated, I have to copy the plugin SO files from /usr/lib to $HOME/.compiz/plugins/<plugin> directory.
Is there a way to automate this? How can I tell Compiz that it must look for the plugins in /usr/lib/compiz but not in $HOME/.compiz/plugins ?
Computer: Dell Latitude E7440 - CPU: Intel Core i7-4600 - Harddisk: PM851 256 GB SSD - RAM: 8 GB DDR3L - Graphics: Intel HD 4400 (integrated in the CPU)
Enabled at UEFI: Virtualization, TPM - SecureBoot disabled
OS: Lubuntu 19.04+Arch Linux

Try editing the compiz-manager script.
At the beginning of the file there is a variable called PLUGIN_PATH set to /usr/lib/compiz
Maybe this can help.
