OS: Arch, FTW!
Window Manager: Fluxbox, also FTW!
Terminal: XFCE's Terminal. So far, I've yet to find anything aside from Terminal and gnome-terminal that will let me copypasta...
File Manager: XFE's double, and triple panes are the only way to go.
Archive Manager: A script in my .bashrc. Just type "ex foo.tar" and it does the rest.
Best Text Editor: VIM!!! (and a bit of geany every once in a while)
Music Player: Sonata & mpd.
Web Browser : Firefox. For the addons and what not.
Email: Thunderbird for my work e-mail. GMail in Firefox and a script in conky that tells me when I have new mail.

Just to keep this thread alive... Not all apps are lightweight, but I'm not willing to sacrifice too much in terms of usability:
OS: Arch
WM: Openbox + Fbpanel
Terminal: Sakura
File manager: Cli, EmelFM2
Editor: Vim, Leafpad, Jedit (quite ugly, but has block mode)
Webdesign: Bluefish
Web browser: Firefox
Email client: Thunderbird
FTP: gFTP
IRC: XChat
Torrent: Transmission
Office: OpenOffice (huge and slow, but I run quite a few macros)
Image viewer: Feh, Mirage
Image editor: Imagemagick, Gimp, Inkscape
Pdf viewer: Epdfview
Sysmon: Conky
CD Burning: Graveman
Video: MPlayer
Audio: Xmms
Archiver: XArchiver, EmelFM2 plugins
Tools: Gmrun, Galculator, Avidemux, TuxGuitar

I am a big fan of the material that comes from Suckless.
OS: Archlinux
WM: DWM
Terminal: Aterm
File manager: None!
Editor: Vi
Web browser: Firefox
IRC: SIC
Image viewer: Gottox's BGS
Image editor: Imagemagick, mtpaint, gifsicle
Pdf viewer: Xpdf
Some of these, I just don't know any light weight alternative.
Edit: SkonesMickLoud, can't you just middle click any terminal to copy and paste?

Or just paste in terminal with "shift+ins"?

The best pieces of software ever, in no particular order:
ratpoison
screen
vim
irssi
mplayer
mpd / mpc
I mean, every single one of them is pure awesomeness, no bloat no suckyness no bugs! Rock solid stable stuff. Simple but genius.

Text processor, HTML editor and multi purpose tool: txt2tags
it's a very useful tool (just one clever python script), with the KISS principe in mind, like Archlinux
It can output to html, latex, wikipedia, man pages etc

It has been a long time since I first posted here, a few apps I mentioned then were keepers, but I've also introduced a few new ones.
Distro: Arch.
WM: Awesome 2 (yep, 2) - keeper. I haven't used Fluxbox since going full-time Awesome. I won't ugprade to 3, will rather look into DWM.
Terminal: urxvt (still rocks!) - keeper!
File Manager: PCManFM. I also use Emelfm (don't like the GTK2 version, though) - keepers!
Browser: Opera and Kazehakase + Dillo - keepers!
Email: Mutt. Its IMAP support (with Gmail, for example) is perfect and very, very fast. - definitely a keeper, but I upgraded to IMAP
Text Editor: I recently became addicted to Vim. Enough said.
Office: Abiword + Gnumeric. I use KeyJnote for presentations. - keepers!
Music Player: XMMS. - keeper!
Video Player: VLC - keeper!
Messaging: bitlbee + irssi - how did I ever live online without this before?
System Monitor: htop and a little customized statusbar script I use in Awesome - keepers!
Organizer: Osmo - Handy Personal Organizer - keeper!
Torrent Client: rtorrent - keeper!
Mixer: alsamixer - keeper!
CD / DVD Burning: Recorder + K3b (k3b's a keeper)
Image Viewer: Mirage (dropped gPicview)
PDF Viewer: ePDFview - keeper!
RSS: Snownews
Image Editor: GIMP
BTW, farvardin, that IS pretty cool

Perhaps a 2008 thread would be more appropriate? Especially since we're nearing the final month...
