Footnotes/References in the wiki

I'm currently writing on the article "Creating desktop entries and menus" on the wiki and am looking for a way to use footnotes (like they can be used in Wikipedia).

After some research I think that the Cite extension provides this feature.
I would therefore like to suggest the installation of that extension, if it is not associated with too much work (The installation looks pretty straight forward).

I think I could significantly improve the readability of the article mentioned above with this feature.

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you mean by that.

Do you mean that this feature is already provided, or that it is not yet but can be provided with a solution that doesn't require to install a plugin?

I've tried it in the sandbox, and have found no indication of this feature being present...

Post a feature request for this in the bugtracker under the "Web Site" category. This thread may generate some useful discussion, but there is no guarantee that it will be read by the dev(s) who are able to implement your suggestion.
