Wine and yet another font problem

So I upgraded my system (had to load lots of stuff, Xorg, Wine, the kernel..) and now my Wine fonts look like this:

http://koti.kapsi.fi/anpurola/winecfg.png

Some fonts are ok, but most of them are unreadable. I mostly run poker clients. I tried to delete my .wine directory, and install fonts again with winetricks, didn't help.

Does this have something to do with the new Xorg? I had to remove RgbPath and AutoAddDevices from xorg.conf BTW, to get it work.

I've got the same problem over here, have you managed to fix this already?

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

Hello,
the same problem, after upgrade the same fonts in menus and dialogues.
I've also had to comment rgb path in xorg.conf, AutoAddDevices problem with kbd I've solved by evdev module adding.
Athlon XP 1300, Nvidia GF 5200, driver nvidia-96xx, Kernel+KDE+Wine all up-to-date.

Anybody has a clue? I need wine emulation for raw converting (Canon Digital Photo Professional), so please help us.

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

Try nvidia driver 180.11 or the 173.blah driver.

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

So no chance ... maybe downgrade kernel or xorg ...
nvidia-173 driver is garbage for FX 5200, it doesn't work.

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

It's not a driver issue. I've got 5200 and my system is up2date.
Somewhere on the forums someone complained about garbled fonts in firefox.
Try with fresh ~/.wine

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

I've found this help:

Using wine over remote X11 sessions and No text or damaged text displayed

Please make sure not have added any fonts to wine. Font conflicts can sometimes cause a similar issue. If a fresh wine prefix.(A copy of wine that nothing has been done to yet) Is having this problem. Try setting following in registry

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver]
"ClientSideWithRender"="N"

Place above in text file and it can be inserted into registry by "regedit settings.txt".

This was report as been required of OS X on the 1 Dec 2007. This may change. Please apply only as required.

but it doesn't work for me. Anybody has an idea how to do it?

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

It seems to be nvidia-96xx's fault, I've moved my parents' PC to xf86-video-nv, at least for the time being.

I've reinstall both wine and its directories. I think it's a nvidia-96xx problem, fot example here are bug reports: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16146

I know I have to use another driver for my NV FX 5200, but when I use the recommended nvidia-173xx driver, my KDE fails after loging with this error: "Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation".

My parameters:

Linux 2.6.27-ARCH
#1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 28 10:56:24 UTC 2008
i686
AMD Athlon(tm)
processor AuthenticAMD
GNU/Linux

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]
(rev a1)

X.org 7.4
KDE 4.1
Wine 1.1.10-1
generic driver nvidia-96xx 96.43.09-1

Wow it works! Thank you! Too bad if some of you still have problems.. BTW I'm using nvidia-96xx driver.

edit: Now that I tried different programs, I noticed some of the graphics won't work sad For example, I don't see any buttons in programs such as Spotify or Full Tilt Poker client..

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

I'm glad that it works for you. Unhappily it doesn't work for me. I've solved the problem by disabling proprietary nvidia-96xx driver, what was IMO the source of the problem. It looks Nvidia is not able to product bugs-free drivers for linux.
I'm using now open source driver (xf86-video-nv) and there's no problem; both wine and native applications works fine for me.

Wow, xf86-video-nv works! Didn't even know about it. Now programs like Spotify work fine, thank you.

@strummer, yeah...xf86-video-nv works fine as long as you're not into 3D stuff.

Re: Wine and yet another font problem

Ups forgot this thread, but I can't install OpenGL if I'm using xf86-video-nv, right?

Wish there would be some way to fix this, it's really annoying..

Wow the new Wine (wine-1.1.12-1) made it even worse.. Some of the fonts I could read before are now fucked up..
