Updated this morning, now can't get compiz to start-> leaves me without windows borders or any of the compiz effects.
When I try to start fusion-icon I get:

I'm having the same issue. Upgraded to compiz 0.8 and it is now broken.
It does crash or anything, AWN even works fine while compiz is running, but I get no window decorations using emerald or gtk-window-decorator, or any compiz effects.

woops, libcompizconfig needed a rebuild. It's done now so it should be on your mirrors soon (or you can do it yourself using abs if you need it faster)

I'm having the same problem since I updated. I'm running Arch64 with Gnome on a Toshiba Satellite U405. I've not had any issues with Compiz up until now.
I can load up fusion-icon still. And switching to metacity gives me a usable interface, but no compiz or emerald.
EDIT: Previous post is the answer I assume, I was typing when that posted. I'll update with results.

Rebuilding libcompizconfig from abs fixed that issue, but now I can't enable any compiz-fusion plugin. It turns on for a second, then the check box fades away.
Edit: I also can't get compiz to start without using fusion-icon. The gconf method does not seem to work properly. Compiz starts up using that method, but it exibits the exact same behavior as it did before libcompizconfig was recompiled.

Exact same here. compizrc seems to be ignored as well.
Thanks for the help though pressh, at least I have borders back.

Where exactly did you guys get compiz 0.8?
Even with forcing my mirror to sync it shows:
[kurt@arch ~]$ pacman -Ss compiz-core
community/compiz-core 0.7.8-1 (compiz compiz-kde compiz-gtk compiz-fusion)
Composite manager for Aiglx and Xgl
So now when i go to do a pacman -Syu I get:
[kurt@arch ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
testing 13.3K 58.4K/s 00:00:00 [#####################] 100%
core 32.2K 97.8K/s 00:00:00 [#####################] 100%
extra 390.4K 283.9K/s 00:00:01 [#####################] 100%
community 363.5K 280.3K/s 00:00:01 [#####################] 100%

error: cannot resolve "compiz-core>=0.8.0", a dependency of "libcompizconfig"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: libcompizconfig: requires compiz-core>=0.8.0
It also appears my mirror is synced up to date. If I search for dssi which the website says is the newest package it shows the newest version:
[kurt@arch ~]$ pacman -Ss dssi
testing/dssi 1.0.0-1
DSSI is an API for audio plugins, with particular application for software
synthesis plugins with native user interfaces.
Any ideas?

It just showed up on the repos, your mirror might just not have its community repo up to date.
Offline
Shouldn't it be in testing before community?
And I think I verified my mirror's testing repo is up to date.
In any event I switched my mirror to the ftp.archlinux.org mirror in hopes I could just pull compiz-core from there and it wasn't on there either. I imagine that should be synced, no?

Maybe try to force the sync just in case, it worked for me, pacman -Syy.
I just had a fresh install today - for those who had problems with Compiz today, did it include anything to do with settings not saving?
Whenever I go to change a compiz setting in ccsm, I can check a certain thing, but 1 second after I click it, it unchecks itself - any ideas?

I have the same issue. All the core plugins work, but the main/extra do not. Maybe its due to compiz-core being 0.8 and plygins being 0.7.8?

Mine works fine now, I just waited for the new lib to show up on the servers.

Wankel, did you have the same problem as me after getting the updated packages that just hit servers?
Cause I have the check/ automatically unchecks problem with certain compiz options after the server update.

I had the issue after upgrading to compiz-core 0.8. I had the issue of the checking/unchecking, but it seems to only happen with the main/extra plugins.

does the new lib have the same version number? I built through ABS but that's the one that's giving me trouble right now.

Also, my compiz-deskmenu stopped working. Anyone know how to get this up and running again?

No, all mirrors including ftp.archlinux.org rsync to rsync.archlinux.org.

I'm getting the following error after updating compiz-core and libcompizconfig packages (as well as compiz-icon):

compiz (cubeaddon) - Error: InitObject failed

i believe you can switch x86_64 to i686 on all those...
or do what i did,
rankmirrors mirrorlist > mirrorlist.ranked, then cp mirrorlist mirrorlist.orig, cp mirrorlist.ranked mirrorlist on /etc/pacman.d/

yeah, still a no go for me . maybe im just not supposed to have compiz.....
maybe im not switching mirrors right. is there a "right way" to do it? i just go through shaman and do tools > settings > repos and change from the drop down box, and run a pacman -Syy after that.

i dont know much about shaman, but maybe it's using a separate mirrorlist than pacman? see what /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist has as the top mirrors listed..
also what version do you see on pacman -Ss compiz-core?
I get:
pacman -Ss compiz-core
community/compiz-core 0.8.0-1 (compiz compiz-kde compiz-gtk compiz-fusion)
Composite manager for Aiglx and Xgl
with the mirrors i posted above
