Just thought I'd share the good news. I'd been dreading kernel upgrades since 26 and have kept my kernel on HoldPkg. Today I finally built up the nerve to upgrade to 27. I'd been using a custom patched madwifi which wouldn't build against the new kernel, so I figured I'd give stock madwifi a shot to see what happened. ath_hal didn't work. Much to my surprise and elation, ath5k works perfectly! I'd like to thank the kernel crew, the folks at madwifi, and our packagers for making my kernel more free.

Glad to hear the upgrade was a success and it gave you better support for your hardware! It is good to see feedback that is not a complaint once in a while.

Hey josomebody
I've been trying to make my atheros 2425x (ar5007eg) work for some months, now. I'm using the stock kernel 2.6.27-2 (i was using the 2.6.27-rc8) and I can make ath5k load and got an wlan0 interface to work with. But I cannot associate it with my Access Point, no matter what I try.
Do you have any trick, suggestion, reference or something like that to share? I'm getting crazy with this thing...
Thank you

I have an Atheros AR5007G, and it did not work with the Arch stock kernel, but it worked nicely with the Zen kernel.
If you're using Wicd/wpa_supplicant, you have to tell it to use the wext driver after that to get it to work if you have it set to use madwifi drivers, still, after that.

The madwifi drivers work in the new kernel? The guys at madwifi.org are investing heavy in the ath5k and ath9k drivers. Besides, the question regarding kernels is what patch or option was applied. Where do i get the Zen kernel?

Nice one...never got that AR5007 wireless on my laptop working properly. Setting Wicd to use wext did the trick, now connecting to wpa2 secured, hidden AP ;P
Running stock Arch64 2.6.28 kernel with madwifi-svn package from AUR.

I haven't really had to do anything wacky to get it to work since 2.6.27. The madwifi-utils in core works fine. Got it hooked up no problem on a clean install on a new machine the other day. I've never tried it with anything stronger than wep though, so I can't say anything about wpa. About the only specific thing I can think of that I'm doing with wep is using a hex key instead of a pass phrase on the router.
