Nexuiz Remix

I've made a light-weight version of the 2.5 release suitable for netbooks & old rigs. It offers almost double the performance on old/underpowered hardware & weighs in at only 66MB which is a far cry from the original 636MB.

The main difference is compressed textures, re-encoded sound & a custom cfg. Gone are the external lightmaps, some demos, Netradiant (along with the rest of the Windows stuff) & the new player sounds. It retains support for 32bit Linux only as NetBooks are the main target.

Re: Nexuiz Remix

Sweet! Think you could make this for the AUR?

Re: Nexuiz Remix

Sure but it'd be rather trivial. No compiling/installing required, just download & play. Keep it in your home directory or on a usb stick. wink

Re: Nexuiz Remix

You're welcome. smile

I've updated the link, it now weighs in at 66MB. No need to re-download there's nothing that'll affect performance. I'd simply forgotten to remove the map sources. I removed the cdtracks too, I'm sure most people either play in silence or have their own music blasting out. wink

Re: Nexuiz Remix

Awesome! I'll download it in my EEE.

Edit: Worked flawlessly. Great work.

Re: Nexuiz Remix

A little lighter & should be kept more up to date than mine. Nice to see some movement here.

i haven't tried the DSN version, but from the screenshots i don't care for blocks instead of models.

playing yours on my 1.6ghz laptop is very smooth while using Skype over a local wifi network.  i had no issues with lagging or clipping.

i really hope you continue this or let me know what all you did so i can do it myself.
