that has nothing to do with the desktop, it determines whether conky will be daemonized on start (same as running "conky -d")

/usr/share/applications/*.desktop

If that is what you wanted to know.

Re: LXDE Screenshots

Alright, here's mine...

Clean

It's nothing special, but this thread needed some pics. I just started using LXDE two days ago, having used KDE since 2006. Other DE's I never could like except KDE.. but LXDE has won me over and now I can't find myself using KDE. I don't need a light weight environment, but LXDE's speed is nice. Because I have the extra computing power I can still run my favorite KDE apps with no problem and much faster than in KDE.

Fun thing is I had tried Openbox before but never got into it... didn't want to spend a lot of time configuring files just to have a useable environment for me, and had no need really. But there are some wonderful things that have really got me enjoying my LXDE environment more so than KDE (even more so than KDE4.2)

1.) It is more easily customizable than Gnome. KDE still wins on this one though. LXapperance is wonderful combined with obconf.

2.) The lxpanel is much more (or should I say easier) customizable for me than pypanel, perlpanel, and bmpanel. Plus it can use kicker images for it's theme (though note at it's generic height you will onjly see the top portions of that theme).

3.) I am loving the insane digital clock. I made it show what I want, and I put in for when I click on it to open up my korganizer. It is really nice and much more usable than KDE4.2's clock for me.

4.) PCManFM is nice, just wish it had the ability to toggle split frame.

I tried toying around with it some. I even replicated it with pekwm, and while pekwm is beautiful, i found my self toying around with it as much as i do with kde.. which defeats the purpose for me lol.

EDIT: Opps.. forgot to thumbnail it... sorry...

Yup, corrected it as soon as I saw I forgot to thumbnail it. Honest mistake.

One thing I will hand to LXDE: LXAppearance.
I can dig it; it seems better than gtk-chtheme.

1...maybe nobody is interested because we already have a monthly screenshot thread...or maybe it's because LXDE is simply Openbox and we already have an Openbox thread.

This thread is helpful for those searching for replacement for KDE4, a WM which does well with the KDE apps, has similar outlook and beauty. I have tried all the -box WMs, don't fill my criteria. Though LXDE is based on Openbox its different.... easy to configure and has KDE 3.x touch.

Here is my KDE4 replacement with LXDE:
lxde-thumb.jpg

How to do:

1. Install LXDE and all related packages
# pacman -S lxde

2. Replace fam with gamin
# pacman -S gamin

3. Other useful packages:
# pacman -S obconf

4. Start LXDE with KDM:
As of KDE 4.3.3, KDM will not recognize the LXDE desktop session. To have it do so:
# cp /usr/share/xsessions/LXDE.desktop /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/

5. Auto Mount
If you want a removable storage device to mount automatically with PCManFM, you must install HAL and add your user to hal group:
# gpasswd -a your_username hal

# pacman -S pmount

6. If keybord is different than US, create file "autostart" in folder:
~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/

Add this line in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart (if keybord is Finnish (fi)):
setxkbmap -rules xorg -layout fi -option "

7. More information:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXDE

8. Install new themes (.obt), create folder:
~/.themes

Aurora Leopard BSM gtk theme (96082-Aurora Leopard BSM.obt):
http://box-look.org/content/show.php/Le … tent=96082

Install:
<Menu><Preferences><Openbox Configuration Manager><Install a new theme....>

9. Display file icons on desktop located in ~/Desktop
a) Right click anywhere on the desk and select <Desktop Settings>.
b) Select tab: "Desktop" and tick mark: Manage the desktop and show file icons.
c) Menu<Preferences><Appearance> and select tab: Icon

10. Change panel color, edit the background.png in: /usr/share/lxpanel/images/
