Hallo arch community!! Im new here and in using arch. So... i have the net install disk of arch linux and when im select auto prepare for partitioning disks , no disk found. I have 3 sata hdds and none of them can be found by the arch install framework. Any idea ? The bios of my motherboard recognize them all. My motherboard is asus a8vmx . Is there any way to make arch recognize the hdds ? Thanks in advance..and sorry for my english..

Boot into the Arch live cd and post the output of the following command:
# fdisk -l
You can also try booting from a gparted live cd and see if it can recognize the drives.

fdisk -l
returns just nothing
and gparted live cd can see them all...:s
Why this ? :s i used slackware 12.2 before and all was ok !!

If gparted sees them and the fdisk command under Arch's live CD does not, the problem is w/ the Arch live CD. You are using the 2009.8 version I take it? If so, I dunno what to tell you. Perhaps someone in here will know the answer.

Hmmm.. does your BIOS have different options for SATA disc, for example, AHCI mode vs. compatible mode, etc? You might want to see if switching that mode to another setting helps.

Pff.. nothing happens and with the core one :s .

Early sata controllers were often not true sata controllers, but merely converted ide signals to sata signals.
Try booting with the ide legacy option.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)

I think the 'legacy sata' mode is the 2nd on on the arch boot screen isn't it?

I feel your pain... I just installed a new SATA DVDr in my box and I can't boot the Arch 2009.8 x86_64 CD from it (the same CD booted fine from my IDE DVDr that stopped working). I'll open a new thread w/ the debug info and link it to here once I do.
