Heads-up on this one, it breaks your file associations, from searching the forum I could find a similar problem quite some time ago and none of the fixes suggested worked except downgrading shared-mime-info.
At the time it seemed that pcmanfm didn't support the new database format of shared-mime-info and now may be the case again.

Vouching for this one. No idea what happened.
And in the midst of such perfection,
I can't help but feel diseased.

Same observation here, but thunar works, which is a temporary workaround for now.

I had to downgrade - used this --> http://www.schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/i686/ <-- for an older package, and added shared-mime-info to the ignored packages in pacman.conf for now.
Is the bug submitted?

I didn't submit any bug because I couldn't decide which package to blame, and didn't see many users complaining about this, shared-mime-info provides a usable database for most programs, that is confirmed by thunar working (which I have tested too, and everyone using kde and gnome didn't complain) so I guess the problem is not completely with shared-mime-info.
On the other hand pcmanfm wasn't updated so there is no update to blame for the breakage.
Now with confirmation that other users are affected I guess a bug report is in order to bring this issue to the devs' attention.

I think there's no development of the current pcmanfm. Instead he/she is working on a totaly new rewrite of pcmanfm. http://pcmanfm.sourceforge.net/

Which is going to depend on gnome-vfs, which in turn is going to pull in quite a few gnome dependencies. pcmanfm's lightness isn't going to be any less light than thunar anymore.
